I had forgotten your elephant roots! And then you met Helms. Well, after I went to the 1980 GOP convention, I became estranged from all politics. Our country is in a mess and it has taken people on both sides of the aisle to make it that way. Shame.

The zoo needs to get in touch with the visitors and find out what they would financially support. The notion of a 5-star hotel/convention center was a bad idea at the beginning. I was in those discussions.

Actually, it was not necessarily the TEA party which threw Ellmers out. She wrote my county off, even before she was elected the first time. Local Republicans felt she didn't care about us. Her staff was excellent, but the staff people usually are. She, on the other hand, really didn't want much to do with the people in this county. So, we voted her out.

The VA is starving vets. I see that at the VA facility in Salisbury, N.C. The staff there isn't to blame. It is a contract which also provides food service to other VA campuses. Food in Salisbury is trucked in from Virginia daily and is cooked in a hot/cold rolling oven. It is not tasty. It doesn't look good. It can be too tough for some vets to eat, particularly those with few or no teeth. It isn't healthy. Nurses and CNAs tell me that often the trays are returned with 80 percent of the food still on it. There are kitchens and cafeterias on the site, but the only one which is used is for the brand new hospice unit. Someone needs to investigate this.

Sandy, Nelson, James - I just saw this - 12/26/14. I am so sorry. I lost my mom 10/7/14. I have been so busy as a caregiver for my mom and dad (Carmen and Elmer Lint) that I haven't been able to do much else. I'm still in Asheboro. Would like to reconnect. - Greta Lint

Melissa, your father and I went to college together. Today is Oct. 16, 2014 and I just learned of his passing. I would love to connect with you and your mom. None of the phone numbers in my address book work and I can't find Donna, nor your grandmother, via directory assistance. Pat was a good man. He had been on my mind, but I"ve been a full time caregiver for my mom who passed away last week. I've had no time to do much else. I am sooooo sorry about your dad. After the Clark family sold the property, it was purchased by a Patel who continued to pump money into it for awhile. Then, things went to hell. At one time, it was a very good, clean place to stay. The pool was great. It is unfortunate that in so many cases the scenario with the former Holiday Inn in Asheboro is common with older hotel/motel properties. They become havens for trouble.

I never understood what a concussion is or how it can affect a person 'til earlier this year when I had a slight concussion. They're very serious. Oh, there are many times when I suspect a smokescreen in government. I do not believe this is one of them. I wish her a speedy recovery.

Why does he only limit the program to federal lands? There is quite a bit of natural gas in privately-owned storage fields, say in Michigan. What is any president going to do to allow that gas to be pulled out and used? I didn't see Bush do it. I haven't seen Obama do it. Clinton didn't either!

My parents were hospitalized with food poisoning and nearly died. I agree that herbs can help in some cases, but I encourage everyone who thinks that food was responsible for an illness to visit http://www.safetables.org.
