I don't mock people that decide to remain a virgin until marriage. I mock those that wear those stupid purity rings and those that thinking waiting to have sex with one person the rest of your life will make it special. By that I mean those that tell others that. I don't care if you wait, but please don't act like you are better than others because you are waiting. FYI the majority of those that make those purity pledges break them before marriage.

Members of the LDS church gave the money which was spent to deny LGBT people equal rights. If you donate money you are part of the problem. It is true that one person =/= every person of that religion, but my comment was about the leaders of the church that decided promoting hate is more important than helping others. Still the OP's comment can still seem as a justification for what they do. As i said both palin and santorum claim to have gay friends so they can't possibly be bigoted when they try to deny their friends equal rights.

I am not claiming I'm not better because i'm not waiting or wearing a purity ring. My main point is that the majority of people who make purity pledges fail at them. Also yes many of those that wait, at least online, claim that they are still pure unlike those that don't wait. Just youtube purity bear and you will see how it portrays it. Not only that, but many times those that preach about purity make it seem that the man must make the decision because women are so easy to fault and fail so it's up to men to keep them pure.

Can't wait until marriage anyway since thanks to those that want others to wait until marriage don't want me to be able to legally marry.

The majority of those that want abstinence only sex ed and want people to wait until marriage and/or take purity pledges are generally fundamentalist christians. Not all, but most are. Their reasoning for not letting me marry is religious bs based on their idea that it's "adam and eve not adam and steve" and that i am going to cause the collapse of western civilization.

One of the funniest and scariest things that I have seen on this subject came from the movie jesus camp. The head counselor said that harry potter is a warlock and if was alive in biblical times he would have been put to death.

All cultures have the hero's journey motif and that is what harry potter, frodo baggins, and jesus have in common.

Hitler was christian and like many Christians in Europe were indoctrinated into antisemitism by their faith. It wasn't until the 1970's that the catholic church said that Jews were not responsible for the death of jesus. Also hitler was very right wing.

face and head you have a point about, but you can easily cover up tattoos on the forearms or the hand and wrist or neck. plus there are many jobs that it doesn't matter if you have tattoos.

First off i would like to say i find the phrase "reverse racism" to be annoying. Second there are scholarships available for you. What, did you expect them to fall into your lap? I had a higher gpa than some jocks in my class and they got full ride scholarships because they could play sports. Is that fair? Not in my opinion, but i got over it. I am sick and tired of white middle class christians acting like they are being discriminated against and that is coming from a white guy.

I am just curious what kind of job can you get when you major in the bible? Yes, stereotyping is wrong, but usually when someone majors in the bible they are very conservative when it comes to religious views. I wouldn't stop talking to you, but i'd be more interested in if you lost your faith or not since the number one way to lose your faith is to actually read your own holy book.

It's been a while since I read about the history of religious groups, but "
1,400-year record of institutionalized oppression of women" seems to be false if i remember correctly. near the beginning wasn't islam pretty liberal and they were the ones that preserved the knowledge of ancient greece and rome during the dark ages? Wasn't until the last 100 years or so that fundamentalism became a real problem.

Oh come on you are really going to argue that? That's about the same as arguing what parts of the bible are metaphor and which ones are literally true and you just happen to know that the parts that can not actually happen are metaphor. So you know for a fact that it was paul and not god?

And even going back to genesis your god decides to punish eve with increased pain and yet adam gets nothing out of it. Women are accused of being the gateway to hell and all women are cursed apparently by god.

Slaves were still treated like crap or does the idea of having your ear nailed to the door frame of the house with an awl sound appealing to you? Slavery is just that slavery and there is no way that you can put a positive spin on it. Indentured servitude was also slavery, which is what you are saying slavery was like back then, and those people were treated like shit.

Apparently god listened to noah though because according to the bible the caanites were slaves. Like i said though it was used to support racism and slavery.
