Anyone with an ounce of integrity owes it to themselves to read Nissenbaum's book which explains, among other fascinating things, why many of the early Puritan communities in America banned Christmas altogether considering it to be the most ungodly of all holidays.

I heard a report today that GM is reopening one of its plants in Ingersoll, Ontario, near Toronto, and yes, the health care factor was mentioned as to why things are looking a bit brighter on the auto manufacturing front here than they apparently are in the U.S.

I extend my sincere sympathies to all personally affected by this horror as well as to my fine American friends on GP and at Sojo. A Canadian soldier from our city was brought home from Afghanistan in a box this week so this is a sensitive time for many of us. My daughter, who is a Psych major, volunteers in helping military families cope w/ bereavement so we were riveted to the Fort Hood tragedy last evening.

I beg to differ, Squeaker. I think these are easily influenced kids who know they're on camera (watch the boys on the left looking around) and therefore there's an element of acting involved. I think Jesus referred to it as "praying on the street corner."

Would I consider myself American? good question, may Cdns who go to Europe wear the Maple Leaf on their backpacks/sleeves to distinguish themselves from Americans; I'm not too easily threatened and long ago came to accept that when a mouse sleeps with an elephant, the mouse is invariably affected by every grunt and groan from the behemoth; all things being equal, I still think 144,000 Americans will get to heaven
