The entire, predictable approach could be termed Ad Homeopath. A number clearly spend little or no substantial time there. This is the equivalent of a paid honorary authorship. It is what he knows and where there is potential. Competing with Apple and Google is masochism right now. Even Microsoft, a company with deep pockets, is struggling. What rescued Apple from the dark days of 1997 was keeping it's shrunken, dispirited base. But the majority of the Blackberry base is comprised of consumers. I assume Chen is referring to the corporate base which dictates what employees can use. That's a very different scenario. Good luck to him, but it would be a mistake to count on well-funded competitors to fail. Chen is basically going back to RIMs roots which means consumers are short-term cows (as Jobs famously said, before re-joining Apple, about milking the Macintosh).

Re: Steve Jobs monument in Chinese ghost city

Actually, that monument park looks cool: Apples and people. The only contenders for replacing the PM are weaker clones who, over time, have acted as the PMO's talking heads. They are, in a way, contractually tied to the central themes and so cannot meander far from it without appearing hypocritical.

Hopefully, the person who ultimately deposes Harper will not be from the inner circle. But the likelihood of that is low. Harper will wish to ensure his legacy by personally endorsing his successor.

Only when parties are reduced to stubs is there true dislocation of the natural succession (see Campbell and Martin).

Re: Apple's Tim Cook picks a fight with climate change deniers

Cook didn't pick the fight, the NCPPR representative did. Nah, irrelevant.

A little ironic that you defend the Conservatives "unpartisan mission" by using your own partisan rhetoric. A political party that has already chosen sides and has admonished the NDP for not doing so. This powder keg does not need the injection of more single-minded, patronizing tunnel vision. And it's a bit rich for the party that is pushing for suppression of electoral freedoms in this country (the oxymoronic Fair Elections Act) to think it represents a model of democratic pluralism in a country as complicated as Ukraine.

Re: Democracy in Ukraine

If you've ever played Risk, you'll know that Ukraine's geo-political position is its curse. It's neighbours can't leave it be and its internal history smoulders ready to flare up at a moments notice. If only more people like Arseniy Yatsenyuk would stand up at these times. If he's being honest, he has no political ambition except to see others run his country effectively and fairly for all. The blue touch paper has been lit again - let's hope the CPC delegation doesn't fan it with their fiery rhetoric.

BTW, partisan politics is something we live with in North America. It's not something to be proud of and is certainly not something to be exported beyond our shores.

Re: The Samsung fingerprint scanner at work

You're right that they can ride on Apple's coattails to a degree in terms of user awareness but implementation is key. The iPhone 5S scanner just works (in my experience). If the S5 scanner is as good, it'll be as popular. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if Samsung loosened the security accuracy (i.e. made the scanner a bit less discriminatory) in order to increase the frequency of times it OK's the read. These scanners are quickly abandoned by users if they become unpredictable as the alternative password input isn't *that* inconvenient.
