Why is there no mention of Maya Wiley? She was the only woman of color to give a keynote address at the Food Policy Conference. A conference that was held in a city where over 2/3s of its residents are people of color. Yet, there was no such representation on any of the panels.
Racism continues within the food system in NYC whether intentional or unintentional.

The only reason to rinse items is because between the time you put an item in the recycle bin and when it gets picked up, any food scraps would attract bugs … or larger beasts with beady eyes and long tails. Food scraps have no impact on the actual recycle-ability

Can we learn from our forefathers? I recently renovated my grandfathers house built around 1895 in Minnesota. This two story stick house has 22 windows! In the summer no lights were needed (or kerosene lamps). The house had storm windows but did not have a central heating system. I remember during WWII my grandfather would stoke the furnace about 5 AM. The heat would rise through the floor via a 3 ft. square vent, rising through a 1 ft square vent in the ceiling leading to the bedrooms, and up the stairs
