I recently renovated my grandfathers house built around 1895 in Minnesota. This two story stick house has 22 windows! In the summer no lights were needed (or kerosene lamps). The house had storm windows but did not have a central heating system. I remember during WWII my grandfather would stoke the furnace about 5 AM.
