The big modem is for the Rogers/Bell WiMax network (not really WiMax, but it's marketed that way) and is still used today while the two smaller modems are, in fact, aircards for cellular networks. One reason why the big box is big is that it has it's own power supply while the cellular cards are powered by the computer they're plugged into.

Re: Globalive is now… Wind Mobile

Wow, I can already imagine a Globalive customer handing their phone to another person, creating a new definition of the term 'passing Wind'.

Re: From the rumour bin: Telus live on GSM in september

Telus AND Bell are planning on releasing their new shared HSPA "3G" network on September 1st (unoffically). Anyone who says they're releasing a "4G" network is full of it. 4G technology doesn't exist yet. The closest thing to 4G available right now is WiMax. Bell has a product they're marketing as WiMax, which is actually not WiMax and is also available from Rogers Wireless since the two companies share the network, that's been around for years but is strickly a data only service.

Re: Bell and Telus stall Globalive with CRTC foreign-ownership hearing hijinks

The reason why Rogers isn't protesting like Telus & Bell is that Globalive will NOT be initally operating on their own wireless network but will be roaming on the Rogers wireless network until such time that Globalive is able to get their own network on the air. Needless to say this will provide a great income stream to Rogers that neither Bell or Telus can tap into, regardless of whether they're switching to HSPA or not because the new Bell/Telus networks won't be mature enough to provide reliable roaming to any new provider in Canada, or even to any international provider who's customers visit Canada.
