Cool. In all honesty, I could see myself not making it the whole week,
especially if I drive myself nuts trying to figure out everything I hear out

For my money, Modest Mouse also don't have a song as good as "History Lesson, Part II" for all its goofy endearing qualities and simple riff. I like MM well enough, too.

Reluctantly, I had to leave out my favorite sentence about this song - something along the lines of "he sings every syllable like it's his favorite." Alas, it didn't fit even if it's a dead-on description of the guy. He's a good dude.

Belle and Sebastian's If You're Feeling Sinister, Destroyer's Destroyer's Rubies, and Lambchop's Live at XX Merge for sure (although those are all a little quieter that you usually like). I also really like the recent Avi Buffalo and Shout Out Louds albums that are both $5

I'm with you on that. *It's a Shame About Ray* is my personal favorite, and
I'd take it over the self-titled '06 album every day of the week. I think I
was just happy that it was decent and had a couple gems on it, this one
included.

That's my thought - I should go to 5 days a week but, and I realize
how crazy this sounds, the daily grind kind of keeps me at it. I'm
taking this weekend off, so we will see how that goes.

I hear you on postpunk too - you have a pretty set time period that's
been mined. Maybe you'll get inspired to put a twist on it at some
point.

Good post, Pete. This is the version that inspired my own "Masters of War" post a few weeks back!

This isn't the only instance of Vedder/PJ reinvigorating the original artist regarding a song. The Who over the past decade have played "The Kids are Alright" the way Pearl Jam covered it on their 2000 tour (& Daltrey even acknowledged it)

I've become more and more of a fan as the years have gone by. I kept finding myself go back to their old records time and time again.

They were phenomenal last summer. I desperately want to see them this fall but the NYC and Boston dates coincide with Pavement shows I already have tickets to see and/or really awful work complications. We'll see.

They're also playing a smattering of old songs its sounds like - Mac posted the setlist from their first show recently at his portastatic.blogspot.com blog
