this is a really interesting article- well done matty boy!

I love the idea being explored here- VC backing bands. Right now they are backing them with fandom but what if the VC were backing them with capital? Just as some of the biggest VC moves have recently been into the motion picture space, backing a band that will likely make it to Carnegie Hall isn't a bad bet either. What are you further thoughts?

The Mac Bodysnatcher- where art thou? That would be a great program- a OS platform that at first looked and acted like Windows but slowly introduced Mac features. I think Mac tried to bridge this gap when they allowed Mac's to run Windows, but your concept better solves the long term problem- converting PC users to Mac users.

Also, I wonder if the train between France and England comes up on the other side of the track?

I definitely think context is everything. Brands who use social media to push a product are bound to fail. People interact and follow one another because of the social benefit. As friends, people can stay in touch, share stories from far or coordinate hangouts. As followers, whether it's following a brand or an individual (and it's hard to say people like @SethGodin aren't rightfully their own brand), we do it for the benefit of information. In following a brand on Facebook, I might receive information about promotions or contests that I would have otherwise missed out on. In other cases, people follow brands to remain contextual i.e. following a brand like Apple because their information will allow you to make informed decisions.

So I agree, but the numbers do indicate that people are following brands, probably not to get pushed marketing bullshit, but to stay relevant.

What are your thoughts?

Another winner, my friend. The main difference between men and women (and I'm stepping out onto a very precarious sexist limb here) when it comes to their friends getting married is girls love to plan EVERYTHING. From the restaurant to the types of drinks they'll have to how many penis will be on the novelty crown. Guys, on the other hand, just want to get smashed with their friends with as few hangups as possible. I love the idea of creating group packages and selling it that way. It would be great to almost do this using the groupon model, doling out a finite number of packaged spots per city per week so that your b-party doesn't cross paths with any other. Selfishly, I also like this idea because my hangover beards would kill at the Vegas-themed parties.

Keep the ideas flowing!

Hootie Hat guy here. This poor dog is one tough fighter. So sweet and gentle even as blood poured out of his mouth. A few clarifications: 1. An ambulance passed and would not actually take "Meeker" 2. The cops who arrived truly said, "If we take him, we'll just have to bring him to a kill shelter." While it was not malicious, their frankness was alarming 3. The ASPCA shelter runs on business hours and closed at 7pm. This incident happened around 6:15pm, leaving little time to fight midtown traffic to make it there. 4. Well over a dozen people rushed to the dogs aid, with three of them piling into a car and personally delivering him to safety. For that, they should be commended.

I'd like to say that something spooked Meeker and he jumped but given how he fell - flailing and landing on his back haunches - and seeing as how no one came to retrieve him, it's likely that this was a heartless act by an indecent human.

As a witness at the scene, the police were not malicious about the comment but simply being honest. In the words of the two policemen who arrived, all they can do in that situation is bring the animal to a center where it will be euthanized. This wasn't a response after seeing the dogs condition - this was a blanket statement. I don't know if this is protocol for all police but that's what was explained to us. Again, the policemen were not malicious; they both actually lamented at the cruelty of the situation and talked about their own pets. One officer actually said, "We don't want to take him, this guy deserves better than what we can give him."

Liebe Welt, welche Qualifikation muss man denn heutzutage haben um als Redakteuer/Autor/... eingestellt zu werden? Bzw. schaut kein Redaktionsleiter über die Artikel bevor sie veröffentlich werden? Wir haben eine soziale Marktwirtschaft, keine freie Marktwirtschaft. Dies wird per Grundgesetz (Sozialstaatspostulat) festgehalten. Der Autor hat zwar eine Meinung, aber offensichtlich nicht viel Bildung.
Zudem: Wer meint es sei die Zukunft der Menschheit, dass es 8 Mrd. Autos auf der Erde gibt, ist realitätsfern. Die Verkehrsprobleme wird man durch die Schiene & Co. und nicht durch den Indiviualverkehr per Auto lösen.

There's a lot of articles that say they are switching to the QUALCOMM chipset, which only does CDMA/GSM in one chip along with HSPDA+, not LTE.

Think about it, if they just hired an LTE specialist, what makes you think they are going to try to pump out a phone that 1. the LTE network isn't even popular and is only available in like a handful of major cities and 2. pump out a product which hasn't received much testing yet.

Sorry for the late reply. But yes, if your starting off of a old database schema, you can still use that and work migrations off from that. If the table already exists, the migration will error out as would any MySQL call. Because you're using migrations, your schema is always kept the same throughout your environments as long as they all have the same similar starting point (ie. from scratch).

Ah, yeah. www-data:staff is a permission specifically to one of my storage machines. A stronger suggestion would be to allow a group to access the Time Machine directory so that if you create new accounts, you can specifically give them a group like "timemachine" so that you can specify which accounts are allowed to backup onto the machine. Sorry for the late reply.

Ah, sorry. This is a bug in the code since you are most likely running base_url() with a concatenation. The easiest way to fix this would be to prepend a line such that an empty input will return just the CDN URL itself.

I mean, it allows you to create tables, fields, columns, indexes with ease. You can even roll them back easily like dropping only a few columns if you modified a table. You may not want to do a "CREATE TABLE" directly, but I have had some instances where it restricts you to creating a unique key and not allowing you to create a non-unique "key" which is where you'd need to execute something like that.
