Why all of the meetings and discussion. We all know what we need to help us with our health care, but nothing is changing.

There are great resources out there for this purpose. Bend the Health Care Trend is a great example.
http://www.strategicvisionp...

This guide by Mark S. Gaunya and Jennifer A. Borislow, talks about CDHP's. The premise when consumers are engaged and empowered to make informed, responsible, and cost-conscious decisions about their lifestyle and healthcare spending, they will be healthier and happier which in turn will help drive down the rapid rise in health care spending.

Re: Clever Ad "Vegetables Are All Your Body Needs"

There are many myths about just eating veggies/plants that should have been busted by now. A really great book I've read recently is, The Perfect Formula Diet, by Janice Stanger, which is a great example for busts of common nutrition and health myths.

For example, too much protein (especially from animal foods) can make you fat and sick. Plants put together ALL the essential amino acids that form protein (no animal can make essential amino acids). Animal protein is more harmful than animal fat and raises insulin levels as much or more than carbs do. Calcium intake has little to do with the strength of bones throughout life. Cow’s milk is chock full of estrogen, which promotes breast, endometrial, ovarian, prostate, and testicular cancers. Marine algae – not fish – put together all omega-3 fatty acids and are an excellent and readily available source of omega-3s (as are flax seeds). Fish, on the other hand, are loaded with persistent organic pollutants that cause disease, birth defects, and death.

Re: The truth about comparisons between America and Canada when it comes to health care.

One of the things missing completely is the benefits of personal medicine in the US, in which patients actually receive personal attention. Dr. Norman Makous (doctor for some 50-60 years) has written a book talking about just that, called “Time to Care.” It’s not about the current legislation, but about the changes that have happened in the care of patients and how that should be fixed. And the legislation fails to address the key issues in the book, which is HOW we provide medical services! His point of view is that having an independent primary care physician at the heart of the person’s medical care is a proven, effective and an ethical method of monitoring care, and it reduces unnecessary and expensive tests that drive up costs. Very thought-provoking — and the kind of medicine I want.

Re: Remembering Black Friday

One book I hope to see on Wal-Mart shelves would be one that is light, funny, but serious at the same time. "Cancel Christmas," by Rocco Leonard Martino offers satire on the subject of people and their greed. It would be a perfect gift for before, or on the holidays. I certainly enjoyed reading it.
http://www.cancelchristmas.us

Re: Cool Cat Teacher Blog: Daily Spotlight on Education 06/25/2009

Saw your Twitter and decided to check you out here as well. I love good educational blogs. I'm always looking for more and better books to help teachers out. Check out Janis Gioia's book, The Wolf Pack Classroom Management Plan. Very helpful suggestions on the Elementary level.
http://www.wolfpackclassroo...

Re: Worst books on China for 2008

I'd have to say that the worst book I had to read on China would have been my Learn to Speak Mandarin Chinese Manual (only because it was slightly redundant), other than that, the Best book on China would have to be "Return to Middle Kingdom", by Yuan-tsung Chen. Danny Schechter, author of Plunder, shows how debt has restructured our economy and put Americans under a burden that many will never crawl out of. It indicts the regulators who enabled the crisis and the media that missed it. You must read it to fully understand.

http://www.newsdissector.co...

Re: Wash.
