It looks like there are a couple of gotchas when you use the command line tool inside a virtual environment like ESXi. While the status command returns Activated = 1; Active = 1;, the isActivated command returns an error message and tells me that I’m inside a virtual machine. The Caching Server seems to work nonetheless and the GUI correctly represents this status. I’m not sure if one of the CLI commands is broken or if something else is going on. I’ve the serial number of the machine already configured to be no longer than 12 chars and the Caching Server worked without flaws on older (virtualized) version of macOS.

Re: PhpStorm 2016.2 is released!

I’ve the same issue. It’s a user centric workflow compared to the developer based approach you describe. I can save some time this way. It would be extremely unnatural to give your users instructions in the release notes. It’s my job to fix bugs and to add features. I have to save time, because I’m an indie. I don’t have a “release notes writer” in my team.

Re: BugHub - Native issue tracking for GitHub

Now I get it, thanks!

Re: BugHub - Native issue tracking for GitHub

What’s the difference to the official, free GitHub client (which honestly looks almost the same)?

Re: The Joy of Tech :: Facebook is so over!

Won’t there be a JoyPoll anymore?

Re: Xbox LIVE Ultimate Game Sale: Day 2

US sales tax is usually much lower than VAT in Europe. If you buy the aforementioned extra package in addition to your contract you stop caring in which part of the EU you are (e.g. with Vodafone or Telekom / T-Mobile). Even prepaid contracts have the same prices for outgoing calls in the whole EU (e.g. Congstar). Regulations made this almost a non-issue and it will only get better. Travel SIMs are popular, because people are locked in into creepy contracts or don’t know that they can buy an extra package in addition to their monthly contract. They are also very popular for people from outside the EU. Keep in mind that we have also a much better coverage than in the US and effectively pay less.

Re: iPhone pricing and US market share

We’ve also cheap roaming plans (depending on the carrier and contract, but usually between 5–10 € / month extra) that let you either use your national minutes or get very cheap calls from within the whole EU (thanks to government regulations). Your comparison couldn’t be further from the truth.

Re: http://mosx.tumblr.com/post/25794601333

xcrun is just a multi-purpose command that runs or locates development tools. We make a journaling app for OS X that offers better media integration than Day One for about the same price. There will also be an iOS version, but the release date isn’t public at this moment. Memories (http://shurl.at/as) has an easy to use interface while you can add images & other media to your entries in Memories. With Day One you are limited to text, but it’s sometimes really nice to add a picture of your or a place you recently visited. Furthermore we offer true encryption. Day One is password protected, but it is very easy to see the plain text of your entries when you go to the folder in the Finder where your journal is stored. Memories uses AES encryption and your entries are really unreadable for prying eyes. I can’t say it often enough how important it is to keep your very personal entries protected. I think that our export and import functionality is also superior. You can export and import entries in over five formats and choose between exporting a single entry or the whole diary.

Re: Automatic creation and modification dates in Core Data models

You shouldn’t set the primitive value, because Core Data won’t notice the change. You should rather compare if the date is greater than a certain threshold (e.g. 1 second) and set it only in this case. This is also stated in the Apple docs.

Re: http://mosx.tumblr.com/post/17380256634

Based on your workflow I created one that edits the current text in BBEdit. I remember that you told me that you’ve a similar one, but that you aren’t allowed to switch applications between the editing session, because the script always switches back to the last application. I save the current app in a variable and then switch back to it. You can browse in Safari or do other weird stuff during your editing sessions and the script does the right thing.

I used QuickCursor all the time, but it stopped working reliably for apps that are in full-screen. My script has also some problems with them, but there’s a hacky solution around it that isn’t visible in this screenshot: http://shurl.at/aj. Just add 0.5 sec pauses before you paste the content into BBEdit / the other application and tell the other application to bring application windows to the front.

Re: http://mosx.tumblr.com/post/9554069670

Yes, Smart Folders are like BBEdit or DragThing.
