Our government has stated that we will be withdrawing our troops in 2011 but in recent weeks has been "suggesting" the possibility that Canada will maintain a presence there.

It seems to me that there will never be a solution in Afghanistan through military intervention. Like Vietnam and Iraq we will never be able to impose our way of government on these people.

Re: I Vote for A Woman Remembers for the 2009 Bloggers’ Choice Special Award

Since I'm from Canada, I can't vote, but I wish you the best of luck!

Cheers!

Re: Every Man A Giant: A Fortieth Anniversary

Although I never served in the military, I grew up in a military family and I commend anyone who does. It was pitiful how Americans who served during the Vietnam war were treated on their return home and that it took so long to finally realize their contribution. If nothing else, at least the attitude has changed towards those serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.

We (Canada) currently have troops in Afghanistan and I'm proud to display the "Support Our Troops" bumper sticker.

Re: Week in Review, a Personal Perspective

We have not had the death penalty in Canada for many years although every time there's an horrific crime the call goes out by some to have it reinstated. I do not agree with the death penalty and don't believe it acts as a deterrent. Our crime rate in Canada is not as high as in the States.

With regard to health insurance, I realize that our system in Canada is far from perfect, but I believe it is far better than what is currently offered in the States. Those who criticize our system saying that you have long waits etc are simply wrong. It does work and it certainly takes a burden off families who would not be able to afford medical insurance if we decided to opt out of our present coverage.

Enjoy the vacation!
