On another blog, I made the statement that nobody is happy about having an abortion, and I was surprised at the negative reaction I got. I believe my comment was deliberately misconstrued; I will grant that women may be relieved after having an abortion, or relieved that they have the ability to make the decision which will allow them and their families the best future. And I am not implying secret guilt or mourning. But that is not the same thing as being happy to have an abortion.

Did you not see that web site (now down) selling the bumper stickers - they had two versions of each one, "Don't Re-Nig in 2012" and "Don't ReNege in 2012." Do you think the people buying the sanitized version were NOT racists, or just avoiding the blatent terms?

He has no relationship with CCF, they simply are both opponents of HSUS. And as for his comments about PETA and Ms. Newkirk, they are simply the truth. PETA's mouthpieces (sock-puppets like you) parrot the party line about how killing is necessary and kind and good, but the fact is that killing is NOT necessary. It is lazy and evil and cruel. PETA tries to whitewash its philosophy that animals are better off dead than in loving homes, but their actions in opposing no-kill sheltering, and in killing ever animal that comes through its doors reveal their true philosophy. What kind of person breaks into the workplace after hours and kills animals that the shelter she works for deemed could be saved? Ingrid Newkirk, playing angel of death. She's a sick woman. There are homes for most of the animals in shelters, if shelter managers and communities would commit themselves to finding those homes. Fatal-Plus is not the answer, adoption is.

It's a load of crap. The information filed with the Commonwealth of Virginia reflects that only a tiny fraction of the animals brought to PETA are sent to other shelters.

You're clearly lying about reading his blogs, because he has plenty to say about overpopulation and taking care of unwanted companion animals. In fact, he has turned around more than one shelter to a no-kill model through changing shelter management and personnel to people who are committed to aggressively seeking homes for animals, increasing the public's access to the animals so that opportunities for people seeking to adopt can meet and apply (many shelters have very limited hours), outreach to the community to involve them in the process of making the shelter more effective in caring for the animals and finding them homes, aggressively working with animals with behavioral issues so that they can be placed, interfacing with rescue groups and volunteers so that crowding is not a problem or does not become a problem, and many other reforms which make the shelters a place of life and hope and not a slaughterhouse. There is actually a great demand for shelter pets, it is mismanagement by old school thinking that looks to killing as the answer to every problem which results in the crazy kill rates.

He's just trying to drive up her legal bills so she will back off. It is a standard tactic, we see it all the time. She may or may not have an obligation to produce the records (which, even if she does, is likely independent of his obligation to pay support) but it is very rare for a court to impose sanctions as soon as a party is late producing records. What usually happens is that if the records are not produced by the time the court has to rule on the motion, the court MAY enter an order telling the party he/she has to produce the records by "x" date, and only if he/she ignores THAT order is there a realistic possibility that a sanction might be imposed - but even that is questionable. She now has the opportunity to argue about whether the requests were legal or reasonable, etc., and the court may rule she does not have to produce anything. It all depends on the details, which we don't know.

We have laws that require police to take certain steps before recording undercover transactions...police are not ordinary citizens, and before they can record you either they must have a warrant or certain conditions must exist which excuse the need for a warrant. Private citizens are not subject to the same rules when taping the police in exercising their official functions. Several states have passed laws making it illegal to videotape police officers, but the constitutionality of these laws is questionable and has not been determined.

Of course, the photos you have looked at are absolutely a representative sample of the population during the Great Depression, and our economic situation in the past fifty years has been identical to the Great Depression, so logically we should expect that if there were no obese people then, the presence of obese people now is the result of a character flaw. And the cheapest foods available now are also the same then as have been for the past, say, even thirty years...they had McDonalds, Taco Bell, KFC, Hardees, Arbys, Burger King...right? Your argument has more holes than a pair of fishnet stockings. Scientific research today has proven that there is a genetic component to obesity, and it is well documented that two people can eat the same food and one will gain weight while the other doesn't. I never denied that there are people with poor eating habits, compulsive eaters, people who don't even try to control their eating. But not all obese people can be lumped together and shamed because they are not all obese for the same reason.

I've enjoyed Bourdain's books and shows for years and this pissed me off. I've struggled for nearly 50 years with obesity - for so many of us, it is a genetic issue, not an issue of self control. I smoked for 10 years and quit. I've never been a drug or alcohol abuser - an occasional joint when I was in college and to this day, perhaps 1-2 drinks per month. But the shaming and humiliation probably were the biggest challenge to my ability to deal with this problem. In some respects, it IS a class issue - many people eat fast, high fat, unhealthy food because it is cheap, convenient and tasty. A delicious healthy meal requires shopping, planning, and cooking that people don't have the time or energy or money to do anymore because of the hours they have to work. If the economy today did not require two incomes per family and six-day work weeks, the Golden Arches and KFC would not be such household staples.
