I'm currently using SOS and not overwhelmingly pleased. I use backup to "protect" customer files. Actually, if memory serves me correctly SolidWorks has typically charged around $150 to go to the special event. How much did they charge this year?

Sure it wasn't off-site.
Sure there wasn't the bottomless well of hard alcohol.
Sure you couldn't see 5 feet in front of your face.
Sure the Aerosmith tribute band wasn't actually Aerosmith
Sure the took way too long to get too little food

What do you expect? It's free beer and food!
I guess people just expect too much.

Re: I Don't Care, I'm Keeping My Distance From Robots Powered By the DEAD.

When I first saw this it got me thinking about all sorts of things...
Why does this make me think of Soylent Green?

http://discovermagazine.com...

Re: Eeny, Meeny, What Comes Next? I'm sure there are is some advantages for Apple to be able to develop its products on its own hardware but all in all this is really just a political move for Siemens.

Will it pay off? Will people switch to NX just because it's available on the MAC?
Are the other CAD vendors really afraid of this move?

In my opinion, the added headache/development time isn't worth small amount of POTENTIAL market share..

Besides, if MAC users really want to do CAD, there is always Vellum...

Re: SolidWorks Crashes & Slowdowns – A clarification

AMEN Brutha! Everyone seems to want to bash SolidWorks inability to produce a stable product. People do have to understand that it's a tough balancing act SW has to play between adding new functionality and maintaining stability and all the while trying to gain market share. As far as they are concerned there is still plenty of market share out there. SolidWorks only has 370K seats..uh I mean 1 Million seats...There's still plenty more there...

Re: Free Stuff Part II

Hrmm..
http://findarticles.com/p/a...

Re: SolidWorks on Mac: CEO Speaks Out. Let's face it WINDOWS is and will continue to be the main business OS platform for engineering. Developing SolidWorks on ANY OTHER PLATFORM would be foolish.

Re: SolidWorks Crashes and Slowdowns, Part 2

I get issues all the time with new software that I install. Certainly beats turning on "Verification on Rebuild" and suffering the huge performance hit.

It's almost second nature now. When I get pause in thinking, I just CTRL-Q and don't even notice any lag.

It's also a good rule of thumb to CTRL-Q your models AFTER upgrading to a new service pack. You never know where there might be a regression.

Re: The Big Book of SolidWorks Selections Tricks (In One Little Post)

Great post. Skipped 2008 altogether do to stability issues. By the time they decided to upgrade, 2009 was already released.

Utilized an admin image + network license and experienced little (if any) problems.
The biggest hassle was converting (library) files up to 2009 using the Task Scheduler.
After 10 years of SolidWorks upgrades, this one went smoother than expected. Not perfect, but better than expected.

The customer uses FX1300 video cards. They work decent but are looking to upgrade later this year.

Overall, the client is happy with 2009 so far. It's probably a combination of the new (2008) interface plus the new stuff in 2009. PhotoView 360 is a big hit. New enhancements in SolidWorks Enterprise PDM are well liked.
