I am so delighted to see 12 Dates of Christmas on this list! I often feel like I'm the only person who knows this movie exists, but then every once in a while I see it mentioned on a message board or a Facebook post. It's wonderful! It's my go-to holiday movie, but I feel like it's one you can appreciate even if you don't love romance or Christmas.

What we do in the Young Coders material to show the difference between print vs. return is fold that into our discussion of functions.

So, suppose you define a function double(some_number) that just prints some_number * 2. When you call it and assign to a variable, the value isn't stored.

>>> new_number = double(12)
>>> new_number

Then we go back and redefine double() so the kids see that when you use return instead, a value is actually stored on the function call.

Love's Baby Soft (Am I the only one here old enough to remember that stuff? As a child of the 80's, to me it's the smell of homecoming dances and hanging out at the mall.)

Also, your basic L'Oreal Colour Riche lipstick. It was the first brand I ever used as a teenager, and it has this distinctive fragrance that hasn't changed in 20 years and still takes me back.

Oh honey, I am so glad this is working out for you. :) Reading this just made me really, really happy. I've had hairs under my chin since my teens, but mine are just the result of genetics, so I can get away with shaving every couple of days. That amount of maintenance has been so embarrassing and seemed so grueling all these years - I can't imagine plucking it all instead. I get it, I totally get it, and I'm so happy for you.

Nope. nope, nope, nope - I'm 44, and the only thing I can think of that would make me cut my hair would be extreme weather conditions. I'm in the middle of a scorching summer in Austin and haven't been tempted yet - that's what ponytails and messy buns are for.

Oh! I know this one! I got a couple of pairs of Jockey's "Skimmies" a few months ago - they're lightweight, not restricting like shapewear, and they come in a lot of colors. I'm wearing dresses WITHOUT LEGGINGS this summer for the first time in years.

One other cool thing you can do with them is teach kids to code. :) Last month, I was one of two teachers bringing the knowledge to 9-16 year olds at the annual US Python conference, PyCon. The Raspberry Pis we used were generously donated, so we were able to set up uniform workstations for all the kids (with rented peripherals), and the kids got to take the boards home with them at the end of the day-long class.

Thank you so much for speaking up and being proactive about this. :) I'm a little ashamed now for all the inappropriate jokes I've let pass by over the years when maybe I could have done something to make the community just one iota more welcoming. Without the context, I'm sure a lot of people think that behavior like this is a one-time occurrence, but it's really just another drop in the bucket. Maybe I've just become inured to it over the years, but my jadedness is no excuse not to speak up.

Btw, if you get a chance, you should take a look at Katie Cunningham's post from last year, "Lighten Up" - it adds a little more perspective to this whole thing (it'll be like preaching to the choir to you, but her experiences will give you a little more backup).

And don't let the rude commenters get you down (although if it starts to get ugly, I recommend turning comments off - I did it last year, and I sleep so much better at night now). It's your space to speak, you can do what you want with it.

We've actually switched to Hulu/Netflix/other types of streaming just for the convenience - I can watch my shows whenever I have time (instead of having to make sure I'm home at 8pm on a Friday night). We still have cable for sports, but that's about the only thing we ever use it for.
