I went to a wedding in Pioneertown this year and the pre-wedding reception was at Pappy and Harriets. Good lord. Best damn locale ever. I will return with no agenda soon. I had no idea this badassness was going to appear on the site today, but now I feel very warm and nostalgic for an event that was a mere 6 months ago.

True enough. The Muslims brought the distillation technology, but the Spanish actually implemented it in Sherry making. For the Muslims, it is a Haraam to drink booze. They actually tried to stop the Jerez winemakers from making booze, but they just cut it back since they were also making raisins for the muslim troops. The history of the Jews and Muslims in Spain is a long saga indeed.

Personally, I think you've got Banksy all wrong. He's a humorist above all else. His satirical foil takes aim at pretention and hypocrisy wherever he finds it. The worst, lamest art of all is self-important political fist-pumping, and going to Egypt right now would come off as such. Furthermore, if he were to go to the Oscars, I'm pretty sure it would be a good bit cooler than just Banksy in a gorilla mask. Give the guy some credit.

I think the teaser is fun. Its also a TEASER. Devin, reserve your judgement for misrepresentation of the film for when the full trailer is released. Inherent in the word "teaser" is the understanding between viewer and filmmaker that you are only getting the tiniest peek under the kimono. A teaser is supposed to pique your curiosity about a film without telling you much of anything about the plot. A teaser about any other aspect of this film except the flame thrower or the car would be misguided.

There is a LONG tradition in cinema of the teaser trailer. It is an art form unto itself. I love them, personally, and I think to dog on this one is a bit uncalled for.

One of my favorite teaser trailers from the 80s is for the movie BAXTER.

I saw the teaser about three months before the film came out, and would annoy my girlfriend (now wife) Karrie by quoting "Méfiez-vous du chien qui pense. (beware the dog that thinks)" far too often. I had no earthly idea what the hell the movie was about, but I know damn well I was going to see it because it looked cool. When I finally saw it, I really liked the film, but the tone was WAY different than the teaser had implied.

My point is, a teaser is meant to tease, to sell with one simple clear and hopefully cool visual. In that sense, to me, the BELLFLOWER teaser works.

BTW, I'm a big fan of the film, warts and all. I acknowledge some of the flaws that have been written in reviews from Sundance, but I had a blast with the film. I am super excited about the production team behind the film, Coatwolf, a young gun, flying wedge of reckless DIY filmmaking power.

Not to get all nit-picky, but we have a "wait for 2 week" clause on passes. All theaters do, it is mandated by the studios. We play lots of stuff for way more than 8 weeks, usually indie review-driven stuff: Black Swan, King's Speech and probably Win Win will fall into that category. Big summer blockbusters usually come and go in 6 weeks or less. Anyway, I'm not trying to be argumentative (and thanks for the nice comments about the theater), I just wanted to clarify!

This was probably my favorite movie of the Cannes Market this year, Devin. I'm glad you liked it. The actor is amazing. He gained a shit-ton of weight for the role, speaks perfect English and should probably be a prime target for Hollywood crossover. He reminds me of a beefy Mads Mikelsen.

Speaking of Man Bites Dog - see Kill Me Please also at Fantasia. Same producer, same pitch black sense of humor. Both are playing Fantastic Fest (Kill Me Please and Bullhead).

I also really love that one sheet for Bullhead.

I am asking the world to disregard that recommendation for Ironworks. Long lines blow, indeed, but the Franklin line is well worth it, trust me. Queue at 10, lunch by 11:15. Bring a book or charge your iphone. East Side Pies is pretty good for pies though. As is the tucked away gem, Little Deli.

You don't pay for the reservation, but there is a drink minimum for the reservation. Of course, you are going there to drink... The place is TINY. 10 feet wide by 75 feet deep. It can fit 40 people maximum, that's the reason for the 2 hour reservation blocks. It will be mellow and relaxing, the ambient noise low so you can have a conversation. Maybe I'm getting old, but we built a bar we want to hang out in... I hope you all like it!
