His 1940s films have a similar b&w, high-key style to your photograph, so I was thinking along those lines. (Scripting News)

I strongly disagree that it stands alone. It might feel that way after having watched the show for six seasons, but I think it would be nearly impossible for anyone to follow the story without being intimately familiar with the show and its characters.

Having said that, it "stands alone" in the sense that it resolves really only the narrative aspects of this season and, I suppose, some of the character arcs. I found myself being a little disappointed that the mythology wasn't either a) resolved more clearly or b) left with a giant gaping inexplicable hole (a last-minute twist?) that we'd ponder for years.

But I understand that I might be in the minority as a viewer who never cared much about the characters (most of them, anyway) and was always more interested in the mythology and sci-fi aspectds of the show. Anyway, though I don't agree with your reactions, they were nice to read nonetheless.

Re: http://meaghano.com/post/617025782

I also guess it is possible that my first reaction was to take that way too seriously?

Re: http://meaghano.com/post/617025782

I think everything you (and Melissa too!) said was really smart/on-point except that last bit: "Oh, but also? We do what we want! That’s why we did it this way!" Because, really, you made a great case for *why* you're doing it the way you're doing it, and then you end on a sort of dismissive-y note (attempt at humor?) that I feel undermines the general friendly community spirit of your whole awesome book project.

Re: http://sarzha.tumblr.com/post/616829074

Well, it's not *about* to burst. The book is set in the earlier part of the decade and the bubble didn't burst until around 2000. I just remembered the Gizmodo interview where the price was quoted at $10 (or $9.60 before markup) for 48 pages, so I just wasn't sure what the final costs/profits were. If that was disclosed previously, I must have missed it. Thanks for the response, Alexis!

Re: http://48hrmag.com/blog/39-post-game-wrap-up

So, in the spirit of transparency, are you getting some sort of discount from MagCloud that you haven't mentioned? Because I'm pretty sure a 60-page publication would cost $12 + your markup, right?

Re: http://abbyjean.tumblr.com/post/571561475

Maybe this is misplaced cynicism, but while I recognize the political message this is sending, I wonder how the disabled community would feel if American Apparel *did* use disabled models in their ads? Another company might be able to get away with it, but given American Apparel's image, I feel like people would just cry "exploitation!" if there were to actually make ads like this.

Of course, if American Apparel *were* producing ads like this, they likely *would* be exploitation, so it probably wouldn't be an unfair claim to make.

Re: http://tomatoallergy.tumblr.com/post/411360373

I grew up in Branford, and I am an unabashed Sally's loyalist, having gone there for most of my life. You just need to stock up. You get used to it. (I've lived in New England all my life, so the idea of buying liquor in a convenience store is a total novelty to me.) There's a liquor store on Charles Street in Beacon Hill, btw. If you want to stock up for cheap though with a GREAT selection, take the green B-line out to Blanchard's liquor store in Allston. It's a block or two north from the Harvard Ave stop.

Re: this.might.suck - i’m so anti-feminism (and yes i’m a girl)

This is just a joke that I'm missing, right?

And if it's not, then do you think women aren't meant to get paid equally?
