I'm not sure you can use one-click with a Gift Card. Try clicking on Shopping Cart and then do a normal Checkout. The amount should be deducted from your Gift Card. You then need to open your Account and select "Manage Your Kindle" to download the book to your computer.

Also, you might want to check "Manage Your Kindle" to make sure you haven't already purchased some books.

There should be no problem transferring a Kindle Book using Windows XP. I assume you have attached your Kindle to your PC using the Kindle USB cable. The Kindle should then appear as a Drive Letter. Click on the Drive Letter and open the Kindle Documents folder. Using the normal XP copy command, copy and paste your .AZW to that folder.

When finished copying, unplug the Kindle and turn it on. Your book should appear in the list.

The KindleDX handles pdf's. The Kindle2 and original Kindle not so much: they actually look pretty bad unless they are very simple. There is no security check on files that are not protected.

I have not tried txt files. I suspect though, that they would have to be converted to a pdf.

Chrome looks great but has one major flaw. It continually crashes on XP, Vista, and Windows 7. Not just once in a while but like 10 times in 30 minutes. I dumped it.

I went to a doctor the other day to have some skin crap frozen off and he wanted to know what was wrong with me. Why? Because I don't take any pills. None. It's like I'm a mutant or a communist; certainly not an american.

He gave me a brochure so I can look for something I don't have and take a pill for it. Preferably something expensive that is additive and leads to other problems and more prescriptions.

I guess I am out of touch. I saw the term, Black Friday, 2 weeks ago at Home Depot. Since there were 2 black people standing behind the counter, and the sign, I was not sure what the hell it referred to. They explained it, and, like you, I thought it was beyond stupid.

Right now I'm rushing off to Walmart, it's 5am, not to buy anything, but to see if I can trample an employee.

The other choice is to wait for the final, perfect model which means you will never have to buy anything.
