No pacing, flat as a fucking pancake. Like a bad Saturday Night Live skit, the joke was over 30 seconds into the gig and then it dragged on for another half hour...
Not to mention that should they ever be so lucky as to actually get into the studio system, these petty martinets, cowed over on commercials sets, are shocked to discover that they're just cogs in a machine where the true "stars" are actually - stars.

Re: BBDO New York CCO Bill Bruce Looking for a Director Gig - mediabistro.com: AgencySpy

You've left out approximately 800 names of the ones who didn't make it. They've shitcanned their creative director and there's the lingering stench of the Avon scandal which really should bring down Lynn Roer, the head of production - although the fact that that talentless hooer has stuck around this long would suggest that she's got some swell negatives...

Re: escape from LA

As if the State of California can afford to rebate 30% of anything at the moment...

I remember lazing on a nice, Naugahide couch in front of a fake fireplace watching the Yanks on a 50" HD TV in a pop-out trailer while we were doing some expensive piece of crap spot for some national chain that was being fleeced, both creatively and in terms of production costs.

I can also remember standing around in the dirt, outside a secondary European city, sipping espresso and eating a delicious panini as I watched a small crew of maybe 30 producing an elaborate effects-laden spot that ended up winning a bunch of awards.

LA film production got as fat and lazy as Detroit auto production and now they're paying for it Jerry. It's useless to try in any event but the state isn't the issue, it's the CYA culture of film production in LA, the 5 & 5 and 6 & 6 crews that once were 3 & 3 and 4 & 4 (and in Europe, South America and some of the "rebate" states - remain). It's production designer assistants and staffs and staff's assistants. Oh yeah, it's also the craft service that might make Nero blush...

Re: blogging

Oops. If that were indeed the mission, then anonymity would be necessary.

I'm probably something of a medium-weight in the industry but, in an effort to set the record straight (always in defense of others), I have used my real name from time to time.

Granted, given the communication skills of many of the followers of such a blog, things might become a tad pithy from time to time but, what the fuck? That can be fun.

Sadly, all I've seen recently on Agency Spy has been the same kind of rip-and-read drivel that one can easily find on any of the print-based trade publication's web sites. Hardly worth commenting on anonymously or otherwise.

That said, props to Agency Spy for providing a useful forum for dialogue.
