I would like to second the opinion voiced by Tucker. Paul puts in numerous extra hours in fulfilling the duties of the office. How much should a person do above and beyond what the job calls for? I also believe that Paul is on a "contract " based on performance. Certain things performed, pledged, and done for the amount paid.
If these obligations are not met then the pay is not given. At least something like this was discussed at some city council meetings. Regardless, I think we are getting a great bargin for our investment.

70,000?? Where in the world did this amount come from? I think truth would be served best by checking up on the facts. You thought this was "community service"? No one has more of a sense of community service than Paul but one needs adequate compensation for the time and service involved. Do you work for free??

When you say think of one of these "individuals" as mayor I don't know exactly what you mean. It would be the new 'city manager" that would have all the power.

Well. Well. The results are in. I am sure this crowd will be greatly disappointed. A few minor offers of changes and improvements. After all the crying for audit, audit, basically nothing comes out of it.
Everyone watch now how this crowd will start "spinning" these results.

Nothing, and I mean nothing will ever satisfy this bunch. They have a one track agenda. Smear the city council and mayor and try to bully them into resigning. These are "Tea party" tactics. Tell a lie long enough , hard enough, and people will believe it. NOT going to work here! Stay in your cave, watch FOX news all day long and quit bothering the rest of us.

My goodness I don't know where to start. This bunch will never see the mote in their own eye. His three points are comical. Favoritism for his ilk is o.k.---white, male etc. About compelling people to support things---sort of like taxes, military(unjust wars), education etc.etc. Do you have a lot of compassion when you set in your pew?

The personal liberty is the bedrock of the Tea party. They mistakenly believe they have made it on their own and they have not. They have no compassion for anyone else because they are blind.

The answer to all of the above is "yes." Everyone needs to calm down. We have been a city for a long time and we need to remain a city. Things will turn around. The people with the pitch forks need to take a deep breath, pitch in and help all of us keep the ship on a even keel. This is where maturity comes in to save the day.

Not sure about the incorporation date. Does everything come down to the issue of money? I guess it does to some degree. If you can't increase your revenue then you have to decrease your expenses. Very simple. Cut pay, eliminate jobs at city hall etc. Do away with the police force. Put everything in reverse according to when they were created. This is the way to weather the storm.
If you are not a city---who paves the streets? Provides water, sewerage, rules & regulations for growth etc.? The county?(that would surely affect zoning laws). It is better to be a city and control your own destiny.

Thank you Rene for your thoughtful well reasoned article. Your analysis is well done much appreciated. I think both Paul and the City Council have kept a steady hand and a cool head concerning the business of the city.
Growth just for the sake of growth is never the answer. Our revenue has gone down because of the bad economic crisis,with fewer people coming to visit Langley. This will change. Things will get better. Sure we may have to cut some jobs or salaries but we can weather the storm. I think the country is already turning around. It will take some time for it to hit little Langley.
The noise of the "naysayers", "chicken little's" and other so called "blogheads" is almost laughable.
I thought wisdom was supposed to come with age so I can only conclude that the "juveniles" are at it again.
