I've even cut way back on reading and commenting on other blogs. The whole blogging world started to feel overwhelming. I was expecting a lot from myself, and felt like others were expecting a lot from me - even if they really weren't.

What I appreciate about you - and the reason that I still drop by - is not free tutorials. Sure the tutorials are fun, and I love the podcast - but really, I show up here because you address big, juicy topics. Making and Meaning. Free. Indie Craft and the Mainstream Crafting World. Craftivism. You do it in such a way that not only explores the deeper issues at play in this crafty blogosphere, you explore your own feelings and views about them in a deeply transparent and respectful way. That's why I'm here. (Well that and all your great pictures of buttons and fruit - can't wait for you to start hitting the farmer's market again!)

You, my dear, you're totally inspiring.

Re: How I Supported Some Free in March

Sister D, I've really been enjoying this whole series on supporting the free. It's really getting me thinking about how much free stuff I use on-line, and how much value it has for me.

Re: Why I’m Changing My Email Newsletter (and some thoughts about newsletters in general…)

Wow! Once again, I check out for a little bit and when I check back in, I found that Sister Diane and CraftyPod are raising and discussing issues that are critical to all of as creatives in business . . . I have moved from trying to make my newsletter a monthly to only sending one out when I have something big to announce or to offer.

The key difference for me between my newsletter and my blog, Twitter, Facebook, and general website presence is that the newsletter reaches out directly to people: all the other social media and web outlets are like radio stations that people can tune into as they choose - I know that I personally will go weeks without setting foot on Twitter or Facebook or the blog world because I get busy in the real world. But no matter what, I check my e-mail at least once or twice a day. I delete a lot of newsletters, scan a lot of others, and read a few in-depth. And which ones get treated which way varies hugely from day to day.

One thing that I've really gotten from this is how important the headlines/subject lines are - I use the headline or subject line to screen for information that's valuable . . . but when I send out my newsletters, the subject is always the same - there's no hint there of the fact that there's been a new tutorial on the blog, or that I'm giving something away . . . the kinds of things that would make me open the newsletter and then click through.

Thanks again, Sister D - and all of your commentors (yes, I read every comment and reply!) - for making me think!

Re: A little farmer’s market refreshment…

More lovely fruit and veggie pictures . . . sigh.

Re: Videoblog#6: I Get Paid in Time

OMG - this is the first one of your videos I've watched - damn, you are Kaitin are so freakin' cute!! I have been struggling with this . . . I am absolutely overwhelmed with input. My moodling and output time had dwindled down to almost nothing - now, I'm pumping up the moodling and the output (at least in terms of time in my art studio), but feeling oh-so-guilty about unread blog posts and unposted Twitter bits and blog entries . . . and at the same time, I'm craving more real one-on-one face time with the people I value and wondering how the heck to fit that in. Oh, days like today I wish I just lived on an island with my best friends . . .

Re: First, let’s talk about the amazing Mexican fabric store.

Nerding out over here . . . paillettes?
