I guess to me, i'd like to understand diff between 'freedom' business and 'dream' business. You say your freedom business is NOT your dream business. Is it simply because it is/may be a back door to your dream/passion business/life or some other difference/analogy you have?
thx!!

Re: The “Freedom Business” Blueprint

Good way of turning it around Clay. I think I'll need to do some
brainstorming. I think the ethical 'trick' so to speak is to be in business
around demographics and problems that you can associate with/want to help
solve/care, be passionate about/ etc rather than simply picking something
because u see the most pain and monetary gain there.
I am still a little confused over the role of this 'freedom business' vs
your primary mission/passion - i think i asked about that in a separate
email.

btw - i am a notorious over-thinker, so feel free to ignore/rip my
comments/questions:)

Re: The “Freedom Business” Blueprint

Thanks Scott. An example is the clickbank marketplace. Holy cow that is full
of a (IMHO) a bunch of crap that i simply won't promote.

Brett

Re: The Project Mojave Cartel

My primary blog is http://ecoble.com. I have had mixtures of poor, good and great traffic. I have not been good at monetizing that traffic. I have been off thinking of other businesses and niches, but Ecoble is up and running to some extent, so if I could figure out a consistent way of getting more targeted way of traffic there and selling something, that might be an easier path than to build from scratch for my 'freedom' portion. My current thoughts are to niche it down, use a lot more keyword targeting and seo work (we do none so far) to get more defined traffic and then sell them something...Any thoughts welcome.

Re: The “Freedom Business” Blueprint

Clay (and others) - This bit I find the biggest challenge. Particularly when i hear the words 'emotional/physical etc pain etc etc'.I instantly think of a lot of snake oil that IMHO is polluting both the internet and the world in general..skin 'cream', hair cream, etc etc. Similar to the concept of 'magic bullet'. I know society/this world wants quick fixes, but do they _really_ exist in a ethical fashion??

Clay - can you explain the difference between this 'freedom business' and your passions/mission more? I think I watched a video from you on the very small overlap between your passions and the ability to make $$...then I read some of your pdf's, the need to be passionate about what you're doing, pass the 'oprah' test etc. I have been unable so far to reconcile this with the concepts of business building in markets such as weight loss, health etc that i personally view as a lot of people simply trying to take advantage of a lot of other people. I question the number of people really trying to help/make a difference in these markets. Again, IMHO.

So, I guess the main question is - can your freedom business be something +ve that you truly (if you were honest) would be OK talking on Oprah about and that is improving this world/people's lives somehow? Or are none of these types of markets full of 'desparate buyers only' people that absolutely want/need your info product due to some emotional/physical problem they've got and therefore not going to be profitable enough for 'freedom'.

Perhaps the answer is your 'get in the backdoor' pdf?.

Perhaps too i am dreamer and over philosophizing individual who happens to think most of what is sold online and in stores these days is utter crap and contributing to a shallow, commercialistic, consumerism based society and therefore never going to make money online:):).

Re: 5 Online Business Realities (That No One Talks About)

Hi All - Some comments - One of the biggest things Clay has said here is 'you can't dabble' and I firmly believe that to be true. I have been 'dabbling' online for about a year now but have got nowhere. Why? Because I have always had an out - ie a bi-weekly paycheck. It's a huge mindset thing. If you're going to stay in a job whilst doing this stuff, you've really got to somehow force your brain to think this business you're creating is the only thing there and you do need to stay up late to get it done that night because it can't wait till tomorrow. I realized I couldn't do this and so am currently negotiating for a package at work. Now, that is also a lifestyle decision on my behalf simply because I couldn't deal with work any more and need to completely move on to the next stage of my life rather than balancing the two. This decision, was even made as to some people I have it great - work from home 4 days a week, not particularly busy at work etc etc. I still have/had to balance the two and that is draining.

The only other point I'd make here is the need to 'kick arse' at work and work a tonne and make everyone happy with you etc etc. I did this A LOT for the first 12 years or so of my career. It is a human thing. We want to exceed expectations, rise to the top, be leaders, stand out. It is an ego thing. I then finally realized none of that stuff is making my life happy or building towards my life mission/plan. Do that stuff, but only do it when it's really building your life to where you want it and building towards your mission, happiness etc. If it's being done at a job you know will go away some day and is making someone else rich or living up to other people that work a lot simply because they don't have any other life or don't know any better or are simply trying to 'hang on' to their job since that's all they think there is in life; then it's not worth it.
