Regularly analyzing how we spend our time, and experimenting w/ new approaches, is key for personal and professional growth. It's also really difficult to do.

Sometimes I find myself loathe to give away the "efficiency" of a routine/course, even though my behavior isn't producing the results I desire. This is insane: doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.

Not sure about everyone else's insanity, but mine frequently stems from "being in a hurry". It took me learning how to meditate to realize this. It was quite an epiphany to realize that I lacked the control to allow myself five minutes pause. Why had it taken me so long to realize that about myself? Because I was always in such a hurry to "get things done." The irony!

Probably the biggest improvement I've made in my startup game is devoting more energy to analyzing my decisions/how I spend my time, identifying anything that I want to shy away from or that feels "off," then immediately, violently if necessary, course correcting. It's exhausting, but I can feel it getting me closer to where/who I want to be. It would be interesting to hear how you've seen serial entrepreneurs evolve and shed their old habits and develop new ones, both successfully and less so.

Anyways, good luck with your new habits and new iphone.

Re: The Ideas That Won't Beat LinkedIn (& Some Which Might)

Bottom Line: I used to look up ppl on linkedin the linkedin app before a meeting, now I use refresh.io (often via a push).

They are siphoning data out of as many different services as possible and building timely intelligence on top of it (e.g. this person follows mitt romney...so careful w/ your political jokes). They are a real example of contextual computing, a space that has thus far been mostly talk, IMO.

It works bc it is focused. They are doing what @sonar was trying to do (tell you about the people around you) but rather than try to tell you about everyone all the time (insane in retrospect), refresh identifies the people you are actually interested in via your calendar.

It's not perfect, and they've got an engagement issue (so did Linkedin), but it's a promising direction. Excited to see where they go from here.

Re: The Ideas That Won't Beat LinkedIn (& Some Which Might)

refresh.io is the company that is doing this and they are doing it well.

Re: My Surreal UberX Experience

Nice post, Tom.

Re: Ego

Great post.

Re: LinkedIn, Please Fix Yourself

use brewster on mobile for this.

Re: - Thisisgoingtobebig.com - PR for Startups: Avoiding crickets after the Ta-Da!

PR gets a bad name because unsophisticated practitioners think of it as a tactic/channel as opposed to an element of their broader strategy. Assuming they could figure out solutions for regulation, lack of transparency, the (small) value of the underlying assets, et al., I imagine them offering a # of ETF-like products (e.g. the mobile index, the collaborative consumption index, the internet of things index) in 5 years. Would be a great way of providing themselves with liquidity...

Re: Can You Trust An Early-Stage VC With a HIR and EIR?

Good Example: techcrunch.com/2013/04/10/l...

Re: The AirBnB Advantage: How to avoid competition and become a multi-billion dollar startup

This is an interesting article but it's a bit weak that you don't at least reference Clayton Christensen.

Re:
