I've come to like Canons. I don't print photos often, perhaps every four to six months, but when I do I don't want to screw with the printer. Epson and HP both are guaranteed to have clogged heads. Canon always works for me.

Re: Why All Printers Suck (Even the Best Ones)

Based on your requirements of charging you what it costs, I recommend the $500 Canon Pixma Pro-10 or the $800 Epson SureColor P600. :D

Re: MINI USA January Year-on-Year Monthly Sales Rise 0.4%

Hey Gabe – the sales chart there is for BMW models, not MINI. The rubber blade costs, what, maybe a few cents wholesale, and a couple dollars retail. Replacing those is really cheap goodwill for customers, and it's visible, unlike oil & filters.

Re:

They got out of the PC business and thus aren't in the consumer eye, but they still make big piles of money on professional services, software, high end servers and mainframes. Sexy? No. Profitable and sustainable? Yes. IBM is a great example of a company that cedes a market (PC hardware) to others and finds its future in a combination of its heritage (high end servers and mainframes) and new models (systems architecture professional services).

Re:

There are worse fates than providing ubiquitous, subscription based infrastructure to others. People often forget that Microsoft started out as a tools company, and added consumer products later. Tools are Microsoft's heritage, and under their new CEO, their future as well.

Re:

Looking forward to it. (Or alternately, drop desktop clients entirely and go 100% web native on the desktop, using the Web Notifications API for notifications--notifications being the main reason I use the AIR client anyway. Save limited dev resources for web+mobile.)

Despite my hate of AIR apps (AIR=cr*ppy on all platforms instead of good on any of them) —I love HipChat. :-)

Re: The cost of selling Galaxies

Samsung does seem to have gone to great lengths to change its design to be anti-iPhone. I was a huge epson fan from the 80's into the early 00's, but about five years ago I went Canon. I only make photo prints a couple times a year. Epson's inkjets would work fine the first couple times, but after a year?
