To some degree he was pulling a Nick Cage and took on too many parts in subpar movies to fund his excessive lifestyle, which is not a great thing to do as a former teen heart throb in your 50s (think of the route Brad Pitt has taken). Still a major A-list start that could tune his career by balancing things out with a better mix of roles.

But this essentially blacklisted him and had him lose roles he was already on the book for, and for the most part had canceled him for the studios. The point of this trial isn't to win $50M - Amber has nothing close to that - it's to resuscitate his career by turning public opinion back in his favor.

But completely on a different level to Johnny. She lied about donating her settlement to the ACLU, for one, and held onto almost all of it for pending legal defense, or so that was claimed. The film role they met was her first major role.

Copying what I posted above, because this hits home in a major way for me (I'm a guy and I have an active restraining order against my ex):

I would encourage you to look at the history of both these people in previous romantic relationships.

In the case of my ex, I began 'playing the game' to her level, taking on behaviors I never exhibited in prior relationships. In her case, our relationship fit a pattern of at least 3 prior relationships she admitted to. One of her exes in fact tried to commit suicide to end things with her.

When you're intimate with someone who is borderline or a narc, they will exploit your triggers and put you through a cycle of emotional abuse that is hard for most people to fathom, esp. when you start to make plans to leave. It can turn you into a caged animal, so to speak, as a survival mechanism if you have any will to fight back.

So yes, this is a horribly toxic relationship, full stop. But I fully believe Amber is the instigator and she was the one who brought the abusive lexicon to the relationship. Johnny has issues, no doubt, and I do believe those issues amped things up, but I don't see him as a naturally abusive person, but someone who is coping with elements of prior abuse with certain amounts of excess.

On the surface, perhaps. But I've been in a similar situation and I would encourage you to look at the history of both these people in previous romantic relationships.

It's game theory at play. Just like w/ North Korea and its nukes, when a weaker adversary is trying to one-up, it is actually rational for them to do seemingly irrational things.

Coddling white supremicists and seditionists, voter suppression, the right wing media echo chamber (it's not media trying to make $$, they are a part of the machinery), etc is the rational move. As the GOP gets objectively weaker, they will do more b*t-sh*t crazy things to maintain power parity.

Josh Hawley and Ted Cruz are whip smart people - they really have nothing in common with the people they are courting, they like power, and while they're attached to a losing horse they have a highly malleable electorate. That the GOP is aligned with the religious right isn't really a values thing. They're just gullible, pure and simple. They're the fish that you shoot in a barrell.

More than that, it was a political miscalculation. This person has no actual spine or thoughts, just political ambition. She was certain the riots were the end of Trump and made that gamble thinking it would be her springboard, but she didn't realize her (his) constituents love this sh*t. Just like she left his administration just before things were getting a bit too hot and somehow managed to steer clear of being too closely associated with his carnage.

Great! Almost all of us are. Oh wait... you're not? Well clearly, there is no need for constitutional scholars, or even Supreme Court justices, because it's all so super-unambiguous.

I can read English just fine, and I can use my eyes and ears and see massive fraud, abuse of power, sedition, etc, that took place and needs to be dealt with for the sake of our democracy. I don't need the 'fake news media' to tell me this. Former admin officials state as much. Yes, ones that were not allowed to be called during the first impeachment trial... the sham trial.

If you think this office is designed for any king of desecration possible as long as policy works in your favor, you're pretty freakin' far from a patriot in the way our founder fathers aspired to be.

The last member of the GOP who actually took an active stance against this as a mode of conduct was Eisenhower, and he looked far more like Bernie Sanders, in both from foreign policy and his social agenda, than anyone else out there right now.

Part of our standing in the world is due to geopolitical engagements. You can spew all the wingnut conspiracy theory crap you want, it won't shore up with reality no matter how loudly you shout at the proverbial wall.
