Yes you can stream local content. I do that. But the point is you need to get content from somewhere. And MOST people don't have gigs of local content.

They want to watch their shows from CBS or NBC or Hulu or other videos from the internet. Apps can be a POWERFUL way to do that. I don't need game apps or other crap. But for @Jack_Trollsmiter to say that a desire for apps is "a fundamental misunderstanding of what people want" is ridiculous. It's a fundamental misunderstanding of what you guys want.

If by "any source" you mean Netflix and Apple. Sure. But that's not any source for most people. TV optimized apps can be apps that give me content. Netflix, Hulu Plus, Orb

I'm a little late with this comment, but the best thing about Google TV to me right now is how useful it is for what is on TV. The breakdown of categories makes it so easy to look for a movie to watch.

And when you have DirecTV the ability to just search for a few letters of a show or game and find it in a snap is so useful. I think Search is something Google should do a better job of selling on Google TV. I think w/ an SDK it could be a successful platform (especially pre built into TVs)

I upvote this post Robert. It's easy for a lot of people to be turned off by your self promotion and (almost) arrogance about your ideas (and I hope you don't take that the wrong way). But there's nothing wrong with getting excited about a service and exploring everything you can do with it.

PS it's a shame that people would downvote answers for personal reasons. But I guess that's the internet...

I'd definitely say it's okay to delete a tweet as long as you post immediate notification of the correction. You don't want that incorrect tweet to stay there, able to be easily read and retweeted. Especially when the tweet erroneously states that someone has passed.

Well, I'm just one person. But I just graduated in Computer Engineering and a couple of my top targets for grad school (in Computer Science) are in NYC because I'm interested in getting involved in the startup scene there.

It certainly seems to be growing as I never would have thought I'd be doing that a few years ago. I probably would have said California or bust just 2 years ago.

So every third party iOS app is only for niche geeks who would only use the iPhone in ways that most wouldn't care about? Of course they don't know what an SDK is, but they doesn't mean it can't provide tremendous value. A good SDK leads to useful apps for end users.

Most users don't know what the HTTP protocol is either, but what developers have done with it makes it tremendously useful for users.

Bah humbug because I don't pick a platform based on the name on it? I say bah humbug to anyone who does. Consumer technology isn't about rooting for someone, it's about which product do I like. Which do I want to spend money on.

So no I don't pick one to root for. I root for all platforms to compete and improve. I have an iPad, an iPod Touch, and an Evo. I like both platforms and I'm not rooting for one because of Google or Apple. When you do that you start excusing the negatives of your favorite because you're rooting, or missing the positives on the other side.

This isn't sports, we shouldn't be forced to choose one and root for it. That's crazy. I should choose the product that works best for me. If those needs change, I should be free to change without "changing sides". If it's better for me to use both, then great!

I'm not a fanboy of any company, I'm a fanboy of products and services I like. And if that's what you are too, then great. I'm fine with iPhone and Android fanboys, but Apple and Google ones just don't make sense to me

Absolutely. Blanket statements are the worst. And Android fans and iOS fans both use them. It's a bummer because it misses the incredible progress both platforms have made over what we had a few years ago.

Couldn't agree more. I try to not be someone who roots for either one. It's maddening to see iPhone people just say the Android is an iPhone copy that is inferior. Android does many things better, iPhone users just think it's inferior because it's not as good in the areas most important to them.

I think Android will have a HUGE year in 2011, even if the Verizon iPhone comes. It will be particularly interesting to see how it matures in tablets and in Google TV. I've got a Revue, and while they aren't ready for primetime, there is a lot of potential there with an SDK.

You're missing US Cellular which is $599 off contract, $299 on a 5GB contract plus a $100 mail in rebate to bring it down to $199, or $499 on a 200MB contract + the rebate to bring it to $399. I understand you might have left them out since they aren't one of the big 4
