This argument rests on some questionable logic. First of all, MJ being a misanthrope has nothing to do with whether his opinion on LBJ's decision should count. It counts because he was The Best, and since LBJ's arrival we've seriously wondered if there could be a new Best. So, comparing LBJ six years into his career to Magic-- who was never slated to be The Best-- at the beginning of his? Not only does it not make sense, but it's irrelevant. We make the point of comparing LBJ to MJ because that's who we hoped he would become. It's why we've allowed him whatever he wants for this long, and it's why his decision has been received so disappointingly.

I appreciate the intention, and from a distance this is an attractive map, but I still find this to be a poor execution. Like riverpost said, many (most?) countries aren't even labeled, and some even appear under the name of another (Ireland; Benin, Togo, Ghana, Cameroon). Aside from the fact that this could easily and justifiably be found offensive, it's just bad cartography. Was the idea that your travel notes from Germany could be scribbled all over an unmarked Switzerland? I'm afraid updating a world map requires much more ingenuity and sensitivity than you've displayed here.

Exactly. I can't wait to get riding on a not-fixed gear, and as soon as I find a dealer it won't be much longer.

And yes, it's unfortunate that the LHT's undeniable practical appeal (I've heard a lot of good things) is completely undermined by its appearance. Vomit, indeed! Call me shallow, but there's no getting past those looks.

You're right about the rando riding, but I can't honestly say I'll be doing any of that. Versatility is important, too, but I think the Clubman with rack & fenders would be closer to what I'm thinking of: a quick commuter/errand bike mostly for short trips with big hills, but still capable of longer weekend rides or even really light touring. The Tiagra is a drawback and the tubing is a plus-- either way I think some test rides are in order.

And good point about the Surly LHT, though it's a little burly for me.
