even aquavit (formerly located in the crystal court of the ids; had an ex that worked at rocco altobelli's and i used to take her to dinner there) closed down because they couldn't maintain a loyal enough following. part of that might be due to it being inside the ids, which becomes a downtown-st.-paul-level-ghosttown after 6pm, dunno. but as much as nordfolk enjoy paying full retail for clothing, they are kind of spendthrift/special occasion-y when it comes to dining out. could be that, too.

the little lightshow? it’s an entropic phenomenon called a "pressure phosphene" (guys that go into the hole in the clink call it "prisoner's cinema") and it’s a result of stimulating your retinal ganglion cells; the aft-photoreceptor retinal neurons that transmit light data to your midbrain basically get activated and go a little haywire when you do that.
