I have a very strong feeling GW is laying the gorundwork with the models for AT and AI for either:
1) Introducing Marines to AT
2) Relaunching EPIC

But I can't tell which one.

Armigers, mean they defining a new "lower end" of units in AT. Marines could be done within this framework, build off the existing Aeronautica flyers.

There is a decent chance GW does not have copies of many very old publications, as they have a spotty record for keeping things archived.

Additionally, some of the first 100 issues of White Dwarf are from when the 70s/80s when it was a general tabletop/RPG publication and covered everything under the sun (AD&D, FASA, etc) before Warhammer had been designed. They might not want that type of material widely available in 2021

GW Does have a history of moving kits over from FW resin to plastic almost identically (Baneblade, Trygon, etc) but it's fairly rare.

So there is precedent, but they haven't done it in years.

Some additional data points:

The wide angle shot of the infantry (4th from top) has some small text on the bottom left. Others on FB/forums believe it says "scenery not included" (which implies this is from a product box, as opposed to a generic battle pic).

There is a scatter die in there. I don't remember off the top of my head if the current 30K ruleset uses those. 8th and 9th don't.

There ARE differences in the Spartan. I'm looking at my personal resin one right now. The track links are different for sure.

It's hard to say, but they look taller to me. It's more a matter of the beakie heads looking smaller overall compared to the bodies. Look back and forth between the Mk.VI and the MK.IV.

On the other hand, its 30K, so it's all marines. Force balancing isn't as important as many buyers will paint up the entire box as a single Legion.

I agree with this. Rarer armies that get power boosts do better than more common armies - simply becasue of the lack of community's experience facing them.

Abe's weekly hotness articles (Wracks this week) are completely neutral. He's just reporting what's being used heavily out there. It will shoft week to week based on the data.

The Drukhari focus this week is becasue it is the current "hot topic" being talked about everywhere. I don't think it's actually a problem, and after a year of non-stop marines I welcome our new xenos overlords.

But it is clear that GW put a lot more ooomph into the Drukhari codex than into the Necron one. Which is counterintuitive as the Necrons got an entirely new line of minis while the Drukhari are same old, same old.

Agreed. It's really really good. I think it's about 25 pages, and Jervis vs Andy is a classic. There were some really good EPIC batreps in the mid 90s as well.
