Can Swaraj first find out what is the under recovery from these classes of travels (3AC, 2AC) . If there is even 30% under recovery from these classes of trains it mean Railway is running an inefficient operation. As even 30% hike in fare will make it on par with air travel. If there is subsidy or very minimal subsidy on these classes of travel .. then cross subsidizing other classes with higher classes is blatantly Govt Monopoly.

A person traveling between Bangalore and Jhansi really does not have any other option then rail transport. These non-metro people will be more effected by this decision.

25 year back when I was visiting the region, I heard dried pine needles covers the ground which does not allow grass, small plants to grow thus effecting shepherd (feed for goats etc) , they regularly ignite fire to clear those.
