This looks pretty rad for the pricepoint, but I wonder if the multi-touch trackpad can come even close to Apple's. Why can't PC manufacturers make a decent multi-touch trackpad.

Well, there are some precedents for this. Flipboard is an iPad app that kind of 'newspaperizes' Twitter/Facebook/RSS. And there was that art project/linkbait spectacle "printed Wikipedia," which is kind of a ridiculous idea. But it does kind of take the "printed blog" idea to its nth degree, showing that it's not really a great idea. I don't know. I don't put a lot of stock in it.

Have you ever worked in an office and printed out a bunch of things to read later? And then have you ever used Instapaper? Yeah, one of those offers a superior experience, and wastes a lot less.

Yeah, but who sends an email and then sits at his desk doing -nothing- until he receives a reply? I think a lot of millennial multitasking/quick switching is just a manifestation of a shot attention span. I went to college in the early 00s, but I wish I had gone before there was the Internet. I feel as if I would have been less distracted. I can't imagine it these days.

I could kind of see this working on the Wii. (And maybe the Xbox if it uses Kinnect.) But overall, this seems like a fairly pointless cashgrab. Touch is an intrinsically different UI.

It seems like there's no way they can get a retina display in the ipad because of the screen dimensions (the aspect ratio doesn't allow for a neat doubling of the pixels a la iphone 4) and processor requirements. And wouldn't the artwork for ipad games become, like, ridiculously large?

Does it even seem possible that a windows phone 7/palm os/third-place os can get any traction? Everything I've read about wp7 is fairly positive, but it seems like an egg without a chicken, you know? Without people actually buying it, no one will buy it.

I could be wrong. But still, since buying a mobile phone contract is the biggest commitment most 20somethings likely make (as a 20something), it seems like you don't want to take a flier on an unproven/mediocre platform.

Heh, yeah. Wow. I hate it when the alt weeklies cram their foe journalism (get it?) down our throats. Their armored juggernauts and crazed roving militias that force everyone from coast to coast to read their laughable "news" is just getting out of hand. Freakin' hate that for sure.

I expect my year-end lists to be ageless and endlessly deep--like the Pentateuch of Pop, say. And how dare they (the author has a name) dismiss my micro-genre of choice! Archly?! In a year-end list!?!?!!??! We need this Zach Baron's (journalistic) head on a wood(ward and bernstini)en pike! Right after I pay off all my debt from paying the outrageous fees for reading the Voice online and/or in print! OUTRAGEOUS FEES!

I'm with you, 'laura,' 100%. Once I can figure out how to extricate from this devious, Saw-like device that forces me to read the Voice... eh whatever. This is tedious. I'm not writing well. Sod off.
