A blend of forward-thinking/planning (nexting), remembering the past (so as not to forget it) and enjoying/reacting to the present feels like a good mix to me. I find that once you have a child, there is a fundamental shift to enjoying/reacting in the present, as you're too tired to think about the future or past and the number of crises significantly increases, requiring immediate attention. My time to next is primarily limited to Sunday morning over a cup of coffee in the Mancave, when the family is still asleep.

Being the Boy Scout (a.k.a. The Protector) is hard work and apparently is passed down from Father to Son, as I now play this role for my wife and 6-month-old son, whether they like it or not.

Great post G! Can't wait to see more blast-from-the-past pix of myself and the fam. I hope the shot of me in a skin-tight, fluorescent cross-country ski suit in high school makes the site!
