Why does this story not mention that the Stillaguamish Tribe was making around $100,000 per month in tribal cigarette tax and rent from the dreaded Goodridges/Schroedl money mongers. Not to mention that the tax and rent was paid in advance, which means the tribe's income was risk free. Had there been one fire, the owners, not the the tribe, would have lost as much as $700,000 in assets.
...and the judge was touched by the tribal members sleeping in their cars. Most of the tribal members I know do not sleep in there cars. The one's that do, do so because they are alcoholic crack-heads and couldn't hold down a job if it was given to them (and believe me, jobs were given to them). If you were to offer one of these supposed homeless tribal members a home with no mortage or property taxes forever, versus cash, they would take the cash. The cash would be gone in a few months and they would be homeless by their own choice. For the Judge to let his decision be influenced by a non-factual letter from a tribal member looking for handouts is just wrong, not to mention unconstitutional. To send Sara Schroedl to prison for not paying cigarette taxes to the state of washington is also just wrong. The former smokeshop operator from the Tulalip Tribe was not paying tribal taxes, federal income taxes or state taxes and because he did every thing under the table there was no proof of the amount of taxes he evaded, and he only gets sentenced to home detention. He doesn't even have kids. Sara has a 4 and 7 year old that need her at home.
