Gawad Kalinga is pretty big here in the Philippines. They're actually one of the bigger NGOs out here. They have a lot of volunteers and since they're popular, they also have a lot of funding/donors. If you're thinking of helping out you can also check out Hands On Manila (I think they have a site) for a directory of NGOs and cause-oriented groups
