They can't casually text and glance at the screen throughout the movie. It's friggin' brilliant! In EVERY 2D showing, without fail, that annoying glow pops up to the left/right/ or front of me and completely yanks me out of the experience — just so some tween can LOL to their girlfriend. I've actually had to speak up in showings to get people to shut these things down.

Anyway, I feel like it forces people to engage with the movie - and only the movie - when the 3D glasses are on. My experience seems to indicate that 3D is a deterrent to mobile phone use.

Anyone with similar thoughts or am I crazy here?

Re: TITANS Ignores Critics - Lands In At Over $60 Million Opening Weekend!

Taking the advice of others, I saw it in 2D this weekend. I'm a fan of the original, which is incredibly fun and cheesy - they're not remaking a classic here. That being said, I enjoyed the remake quite a bit. Again, it's no classic, but it's definitely a fun ride. The effects in the original were cheesy even when they came out, so it goes without saying the visuals were a huge improvement. And it looked great in 2D. I think Roger Ebert did a good job summing up my take on the film: http://rogerebert.suntimes....

I will probably catch it in 3D this coming weekend just to see what all the backlash is about. Resident Evil Trailer looks cool - thanks for sharing Johnno.

Re: TWISTER 2 In S3D? This film was a major risk. I'm a fan, but I'll say it: I saw the first trailer and Avatar day footage and I was not totally convinced this film would work as well as it does - nor have the wide appeal it's having. The team behind this thing deserves to have the last laugh. They worked hard for five years and are now reaping the rewards. I had no reason to doubt Cameron, but this thing was so radically different than anything we'd ever seen. Such a wild concept. And it works so well!!! And anyone sitting here telling the rest of us they saw 1 billion in 20 days coming is smoking crack. My original prediction has been blown out of the water. I'll admit it. I was (happily) very wrong on that. Overseas box office has been ON FIRE. It could easily top the $1.2B of Titanic. Maybe even do $1.4B. I think U.S. is now looking at somewhere between $560 million and $610 million. So yeah - it could be the first film to do $2 billion in box office. Wow.

Re: THAT'S IT! I was very impressed. Can someone tell me what the inherent benefits are to shooting in native 3D versus converting? With all these directors anxious to convert hit films (Titanic, Lord of the Rings, the new Robin Hood) it seems like a great option and I'm not sure if you are really losing much versus shooting native. BIG MISTAKE! I got there at 5:15 for a 6:00 show and the line was already wrapping around the theater. Luckily I had already bought my tickets, but I still got stuck near the back of the line for getting let into the auditorium. This film was not based on a novel or comic book, and was not a remake or sequel. It was totally new and featured NO A-list movie stars. It won't hold the opening weekend record for December. However, I am guessing this film has legs. The next two weekends are holiday weekends and new films will pose competition. How Avatar does over these next few weeks will tell us everything about box office longevity. n

Re: 6 Scenes In AVATAR That Deliver The Best Movie Ever Made!! That was a good review. Sounds about right. Cameron can lay things on a tad thick (The Abyss ending?), but he more than makes up for it in the overall story, action, and visuals. Nobody shoots action like Cameron. Period. But I thought this review was pretty honest and legit. NOT! I would recommend staying away from his site and am therefore not going to help promote their site (and Google search rankings) by posting a link to it. If you do waste your time reading it, note the following:

1.) It's the longest review I've ever seen for a film he thinks is just OK - it goes on for 2,313 words!!!! I am not kidding. Compare that with Roger Ebert's review of a trim 925 words. And it says SO much more about the film than Devin's "review".

2.) The review is very defensive - almost like he knows the movie does not suck, but he's already been so public about his negative opinion that he almost has to hedge his "review" so he doesn't look like a bigger douche than he already does

3.) If you do read it, leave your thoughts behind in the posts below as I have.

But my actual recommendation is to just stay away.

Re: Cameron on Globen Globe Nominations + Leona Lewis "I See You" Music Video

Hey!
