Hi Faye, thanks for the update. That's good that work is being done on this. I guess after last year's computer issues we need to tread gently with their developers, lol. I'm sure they'll be putting in a lot of belt and braces approaches to their implementation. Hopefuly it'll be soon!

I noticed Tesco in Dyce had moved the Brewdog beers into the fridge this week. They did this once before but it only lasted a week or so. Seeing Innis & Gunn in there while the PunkIPA was sitting on the shelves was sickening. This is good news.

I love phpstorm's refactoring stuff but one thing I'd say here that may confuse those who haven't used it before is that you don't show the result of where the code was refactored TO, the hydrateMemberVariables method. It looks like your code just vanished.

How do you do that thing where you drag your screenshot clipper thing (at around 4:59) to new bits of the page? I tried a bunch of key combos (which also got me some great new shortcuts) but couldn't work this one out.

People do get stuck in to the technical reasons PHP sucks (and don't get me wrong, that fractal article is hysterical, full of head-nodding) but you hit the nail on the head in your closing paragraph. Don't get too hung up on the technicalities and the failings. If it's the tool for the job and you're happy using it, just use it.

I just implemented this in 2016. Some of the page texts have changed since this article but the steps are generally the same and I'm pleased to report it still works! Brilliant hack.

Yeah I'm just getting old I think. Even if they're not homeless they're certainly in a worse place than me, which makes me feel thankful and guilty somehow. Like I say in the post, it costs me nothing not to act like a dick. Homeless or not, these are people. They weren't offensive to me so I will be trying in future to not be offensive to them. I'll acknowledge they're there with as little as a nod.

I reckon I'm changing my bio from simply "developer" to "web developer" now because yeah, I don't really do anything else anymore and it's pretty cool to share the same title as Tim! I don't know why the web is often looked down upon within software development circles because it's as valid a platform (and arguably further reaching than most) as any. Great little article!
