But you are probably right that the inverted pyramid would definitely have its flaws in a traditional business setting.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, my friend!

Re: Letting The Bible Live Again

Thanks, Randy (or Yogi :). It certainly is an adventure of learning (and sometimes un-learning). But I think it is complicated.... because life is complex. I really don't think there is any validity to the "God said it. I believe it. That settles it." type of thinking. I'm trying to learn to let people into the tension of my life... and to be honest with them that I too have questions... that don't have easy answers. If I'm honest I don't always live with an intense desire to know him and to love him and to love others... but I still believe that is the best way... and deep in my heart I know He loves me... and so His love keeps drawing me back to Him like a magnet. And the adventure continues...

Re: Letting The Bible Live Again

Denise... I think of that all the time. I wish that was the case too. You and Ryan are on our hearts constantly. Love you guys!!

Re: Letting The Bible Live Again

Thanks, Swisher! There are many conversations you, Cherie and I have shared that have a lot to do with this. It's definitely another book you can borrow. You can raid my library anytime!

Re: Bummed For (And Impressed By) Tom Watson

Waluk... you are always good for going a few layers below the surface and providing an alternative perspective. I love the Gordie Howe reference. Although he was mainly a part of your beloved Red Wings, I love that his last 15 NHL goals were as a member of the Hartford Whalers (now Carolina Hurricanes) of all teams!

Re: Chris Marlow Interviews Tom Davis

I have read through Red Letters... and Confessions Of A Good Christian Guy. I haven't read Scared yet. How are you currently doing things along these lines with your students?

Re: The Future Of Work

Yes, Scott. That may have to be the title of a future blog post... "More Tom's Shoes, Less IBMs".

I think there is a great opportunity to make serious shifts in our education system that better prepares students for the shifts that have already happened (and are rapidly happening) in the way organizations and for-profit businesses engage the public.

I definitely need to read "the Four Hour Work Week".

Re: The Future Of Work

Thanks for the feedback, Andy. Your insights about the shifts that are happening in the public sector through your blog and your work are important for a society that needs to be thinking on the leading edge of these shifts... not just reactionary to them.

Re: The Future Of Work

Yes. I think he has a perspective on what the pursuit of riches can do to a person.

Jesus' words in Matthew are so fitting for this time as well. If we keep in mind that God cares for us even more than the lillies of the field and birds of the air it will keep our hearts at peace.

Re: John Ortberg on the Economy

I could imagine that this is a very tough time for you guys, Denise. It is a big encouragement and inspiration to me that you are reading Psalm 23 regularly and being reminded that God is your Shepherd. I need to be reminded daily that, while I have to do what I can to provide for my family, ultimately He is our Shepherd!

Re: I Am Rich!

I think we need to be doing anything we can do to open people's eyes to the reality out there, Chris. I enjoy the lively "dialogue". I can get passionate when it comes to this topic, primarily because for so many years I leaned strongly in the evangelical-conservative hard-line no-questions-asked Republican.

For the past few years I have registered as an Independent and try to look at issues from a broader perspective than I used to. I feel like I used to have blinders on and would not even consider openly listening to what a politician had to say if they were not Republican.

I hope I did not come across negatively myself.
