I love that phrase - "walking the online neighborhood". Evokes some nice imagery of what we'd like the online world to be like. I've been meaning to develop a checklist (for several things) as I'm the queen of running down rabbit trails. I think I'll just borrow yours!

I actually did one. But unlike most other people, managed to figure out how to make the background a different color, so it actually stands out from the crowd. I think it has more personality than my picture did, and makes me feel a little better about not having my actual face out there. And I changed it everywhere, posted notices so my contacts would realize I had changed and plan to keep it for a long time. Plus, it looks amazingly like me.

Also a good point. But I'd never be able to find you at a conference based on your picture. :-) And the one I had before would have done you no good either. We would have been screwed making a connection anyway.

Actually, since I do have video up on the web as well, my concerns about my picture being out there are irrelevant. Fine. I just like the cartoon image. I see it as being kind of like my "logo" for my personal brand.

Certainly! Note that I don't follow back everyone who follows me at Twitter (I can barely keep up as it is) and please, please, please, include a note with any Facebook friend requests to tell me who you are.

I like Blogger for most of my blogs, but I do have a few that are WordPress. I know everyone makes a big deal about WP for SEO purposes, but I have yet to see a point by point explanation of _why_. Guess I should look for that.

Agreed. Plus, I think it behooves McCain to look outside of Washington for his choice, which puts an additional limitation. Choosing someone like Palin helps reinforce his "renegade" image - he picked a woman, he picked someone from a "nobody" state, he picked someone really young - while at the same time helping him appeal to the traditional conservative core of the party that's so pissed at him - he picked a staunch pro-lifer, he picked a solid family person, he picked a pro-military person. And the more I ponder it, her purported weaknesses - age, experience - are the exact same weaknesses as Obama, so his camp might be hard pressed to really use them against her. She at least has a little more experience and in an executive position of the biggest state. Hmmm.

Excellent point. Whomever is the first woman or minority president will have to be above excellent to be thought half as good. That old "just like Fred Astaire, only backwards and in high heels" rubric comes in to play.

I'm with you. Being libertarian, my choice is Barr. But just once I wish they could nominate someone a little more ... normal. No one wants to jump parties to vote for crazy people.

Dang! You got me there, Barb! Guess we should only have solstice calendars. :-) Or was it Saturnalia or some such holiday that the Romans celebrated that was actually over run by Christmas? But see, we wouldn't use a Christmas tree to decorate for solstice, would we? So why mix Santa and Christ's birth? (As opposed to Santa and Christmas, which is a legitimate combo for those who celebrate non-religiously. Kind of.) That's my real problem with the Santa Advent calendar concept. (And I truly don't care when Christ's birth is celebrated. September works just fine. For me, it's an every day thing to be thankful that he came and that he loves me. Don't need a special day on the calendar for that.)

Thanks for dropping by, Robin! I had never even heard of Advent until I was a grown-up (we protestants aren't into rituals, ya know), but it falls in with my general Christmas philosophy. I think it's an awesome way to celebrate, so I hate to think that it's being diluted. :-(

Actually, these are the kinds of things I keep trying to teach the people I work with in my office. Accountants and lawyers are notoriously difficult to get to use PWPT effectively. (Pictures? How are those better than putting up the 700 words from the section of the code?) Going to start using the GPS analogy with them. Maybe they'll start to get it.

Thanks for dropping by, Gary. Not sure I would take quite as strong a stand as you, mostly because I'm not entirely convinced we really saw Sarah Palin during the campaign. And I know that most people never paid attention long enough to get the truth because they liked the stories a little too much. Best of luck on Squidoo, though.

I'm not sure Fiona is that happy with me. Wasn't sure she wanted to start up yesterday. Didn't try to drive today, so I'm a little nervous about getting her going tomorrow. Fingers crossed!!
