If I'm reading this correctly... it says Facebook has a license to distribute the images (or I guess they could technically use it in an advertisement) but it doesn't say that they actually own the IP of the photo itself.

I think the next successful analytics platforms will provide better context to existing solutions. At least that's what we're doing with KYA (http://getkya.com). We need to focus on measuring engagement and satisfaction, but attention minutes isn't necessarily the best way as pointed out in this article.

With KYA we have a different approach on how to measure engagement, etc without falling into the attention minutes trap or relying on pageviews. I'm super excited about it and I think it will help out all kinds of publishers. We're launching soon, if you're interested feel free to reach out. :)

I tested out Beats Music, it's nice. I really like the custom curated playlists they put together for specific artists, but unfortunately, that's not enough to set them apart from the likes of Spotify. The interface is nice in the mobile apps, one thing I think that's missing is a desktop player (which even Spotify has), even though we've moved a lot of apps to the web, I think a desktop music player for when you're on a computer is a must. If you think about it, Spotify has a desktop app, Rdio doesn't -- who's been more successful?

This is quite surprising (though at the same time it's not). It's surprising because everyone touted Square as game changing technology, so you don't expect to hear stories like this. But on the other hand, If you look at the money Square pockets per transaction, it's literally pennies. Tough to build a business like that with a short runway. Despite Square denying it, this is definitely a story to keep an eye on.

I agree that big data is very important to the publishing industry. The problem right now is that advertisers have all the audience information (via tracking cookies and user profiles), it needs to be the other way around. Publishers should have access to all of that information, including user profiles, engagement metrics, etc. This information is incredibly valuable if provided to publishers.

As it is now, only very large publications can afford to hire data scientists. I plan to fix this problem for publishers by offering them a platform that can provide them with this kind of information without having to hire a data scientist. My new company (KYA) is currently developing our SaaS product and it will be launching later this year. Just downloaded this update, I really like it (especially on the iPad). It's very nice. I hope this update fixes the issue where the app wouldn't save my setting to disable in-app sounds.

I always thought that at $79/year Amazon Prime was a steal, especially if you buy on Amazon a lot. While I'm not thrilled about a potential price hike, I don't think it would deter me from maintaining my membership.

To be fair, Windows 7 still has like 48% market share and Windows XP has approx. 29% market share. This just shows that people aren't upgrading nearly as fast as they should be to Windows 8.x.
