Nice post.

Apart from deprecation, hijacking and confusion, using rev-canonical lead to a third dilemma for meta link generation within URL that is not intended to be canonical itself.

What I would like to have, is the freedom for uri owner to decide which service provider for some specific action ( such as url shortening ) is preferred. Rev-canonical could be a mess of uri relationship between resources, and undermining the multitude implication of services.

Let's face the truth that url-shrinker is not just url-shrinker. Consider the digg bar, instead of giving up to dataminer in behind "pure-shrinker", people may prefer letting in social widgets to help to promote and provide extra facilitates.

I am not a big fan of digg, so far I have not yet digged anything. But I can foresee URI services adding convenience further than spatial means . There would be means for social, vocal, temporal ( archive/snapshot ) interpretation.

Short url is just step one. There would be a day we have services to choose for specific vocal for screen reading, for personal uri aggregation and indexing ( friendfeed / life cast ? ), for reviewing and comparing revisions, for sensor enabled updater and whatsoever.

Hmm... believe or not, I use github as a group ware for one of my projects. There is a sub directory call docs/meetings and README is used for publishing announcement. The good thing is, GitHub is for ruby and based on ruby as well, we can link all interested projects easily with all updates and buzz.

Spam fighting is a nightmare.

Akismet at wordpress.com bans lots of I.P. , regional domains and urls instead of spammers. I have a collection of 1.5Million spam comments with 0.03% HAM from my blog's honeypot to play with. Akismet give me more than 10% FP and 5% FN, i.e. I have to manually pick out 80k spam to preserve the 400 genuine ones and dig 50 valuable reply from the sea of 1.5M bad. My simple and naive SA pipe is better than akismets' collective intelligence, with 0.3% FP and 2% FN. Even using Gmail as spam filter might be better than akismet, which gives me very nice zero FP yet 4% FN.

For syncing old comment, you can make the xml and post the file with /api/import-wordpress-comments/ , which is in fact what the wordpress plug-in does. I don't know why the guys does not show up documents of this api, yet the source is open and clear. I don't use radiant, otherwise I would consider hacking the wp plug-in.
