My older sister was also a professional (singer) and fit right in this amazing family. I, however, did not. I loved math and science. After we retired, I began to paint. To my great surprise, my paintings began to sell, which really shocked me. Since we had moved quite far away from my mom, I visited her regularly but the subject of MY art never came up. One day on one of my last visits, shortly before she died, i said to her.. "Mom, I know you will be pleased to hear that I have been teaching an art class to adults at a local art store for a few years now". She replied.."Oh, do you teach Paint by Numbers? Oh well!!! I still sell my paintings and I sing while I paint, and there are times that I even get up and dance.

Re: Your art family…

so lovely

Re: Your art family…

I know most artists feel that way at one time or another..I always wish I had someone knowledgeable who could critique it, but then , yahoo, it sells.

Re: Your art family…

How wonderfur,

Re: Your art family…

womderrful

Re: Your art family…

they are so creative,love them

Re: Why does abstracting realism make it more real?

I have always felt a kinship to abstract art and artists. I prefer putting my own interpretation on a piece of art rather that be forced to agree with the total realism in some paintings. TMI as they say. I like a little left to the imagination. When they say a piece speaks to you..the color..the brush strokes.. the composition..etc. with abstract or abstract realism.. it truly does .. and I hear things I never would hear from a photo realistic piece.

Re: This will change you and your art

When I do a very loose, fluid painting, I always try to sneak in a few hard edges. It seems to enliven the painting..the same is true for the reverse.

Re: Paintbrushes? I am having so much more fun. I paint on toilet tissue, paper towels, pieces of anything I have around..I use credit cards for edges, tea strainer for splashing, cut pieces of card stock and various odds and ends for shapes. Collage is amazing too. I never knew art could be this much fun.. I am less critical of my work because there is no right or wrong other than good balance and agreeable color choices. Thank you so much for encouraging me to try this new more free and exciting form of self expression.

Re: Paintbrushes?
