i assume that to an extent, you're calling me out on being transphobic. which is cool - i am ready to call myself out on that (within said conversation) and did, and have. i had a really long conversation with a bash back! friend about this a few weeks ago, and then again, today. there's something unfortunate about how few folks talk about what this does mean, and if you have the answers, feel free to tell me. but right now i'm stuck (also, i'm drunk, so forgive less than eloquent words) with this concept of relating gender and sex. call me out! call me phobic, an asshole, a douchebag. let's chat.

one of the other owners, a dude, also owns trackstar. he was called out for rape and sexual assault, ultimately refusing to go through an accountability process. the women in the messenger community boycotted the store for a while. "rapist" was also spraypainted across the garage door (and subsequently painted over) one night.

i'm not saying that boycotting the store would be effective, but it's something worth knowing and keeping in the collective NYC feminist consciousness.

i think to some extent this is a matter of semantics; maybe a better way to have set that up would have been to say that sexism is one of many manifestations of the totality, not just that it is political.

also, maybe a clearer parallel, especially in arguing for contemplation of feminism, is the commodification of the female body along with the associated moderation by spectacle. within a commodity economy, i think this is maybe even more clearly parallel than the attempt i made with wage slavery and domestic abuse.

so first, a few working definitions, which you can feel free to argue with: i use "politics" in contrast to "Politics" to denote the political - on a basic level, those interactions based on hierarchy and power. the totality refers to the system based on capital[ism] that moderates every human interaction in existence. and i think that in a large way, the words "socioeconomic system" capture the ideas of "the totality" while retaining relevance to normal language and that doesn't sound like bullshit.

i find it difficult to propose that wage slavery is different from domestic abuse; that is to say that while there are nuances that beg exploration, they are relationships fundamentally based on exploitation and force in the name of (material/cultural/psychological) profit. i find that inclusion of these so-called distractions in the scheme of the totality allows the word to more completely capture the entirety of that which oppresses. ergo, the intellectual consideration of these facets to which you refer is in fact an unintelligent consideration of the issues at hand.
