Anyone who tries to convince you your reality is wrong is gaslighting you.

I had a friend berate me for being inconsiderate & selfish because I wanted to bring my infant daughter to a bbq that was held during the day & didn't specify no kids. I was being accused of inconsideration & selfishness because one of the guests attending was struggling with fertility issues, so I was lacking mindfulness in wanting to bring my child. She repetitively yelled at me, "COULD YOU EVEN *TRY* TO UNDERSTAND?" I was flabbergasted & explained I was, to the best of my ability, as mindful as possible. I rarely posted pictures of my daughter on social media out of consideration for her, didn't discuss anything about my pregnancy in front of her, even passed on group events when I was massively pregnant because I didn't want to cause her pain.

All this led me to question, "Am I a horrible person? Am I selfish? Am I bad? What is wrong with me?"

Now I hate this person for making me ever doubt myself, for making me ever, even for the slightest moment, feel like I should apologize for having a child. Now I know the truth: she is a wretched human being & completely not worth my time.

Gaslighting doesn't have to take place between romantic partners.

Re: Harris County Judge: Let's ship stray dogs out of state

... um. I'll just leave that alone.

What I can comment on is what we've found to be a working solution in our household of three cats, a 15 year old (Kitty), & two 3 year olds (Figgy & Zarra), who, at best, tolerate each other. Figgy & Kitty get along alright but those two do NOT get along with Zarra whatsoever. After speaking with our vets, we've decked out our house in cat towers, toys, & ample scratching posts. We have 4 litter boxes (you should always have 1 per cats plus an extra) & use the feliway diffusers which work well. We also foster cats, which was stressing Figgy out big time, so our vets recommended Zylkene, which has been an absolute godsend!! There's also Royal Canin Calm food, which helps. We've switched from the RC Calm food to using Zylkene as needed when the cats are stressed (such as when we bring in new fosters, or right now, as we've just moved to a new house). SO. It can be done! Peace can be found!

I'm 36 weeks pregnant with our first & plan on making it work. I've had Kitty since she was 8 weeks old; I would never abandon her.

Re: Here Is The Sure-Fire Way To Respond to Passive-Aggressive Mean-Girl Commentary Like, 'Wow, Someone's Dressed Up Today!' - by Mandy

WHAT HAPPENED TO THE DOG?! My perspective: I miss the social aspects of it, such as bar hopping with friends & everyone is queueing up to order drinks & I'm like... water again I guess. I try to steer clear of sodas because me + carbonation = gas bomb. Otherwise, I don't really miss it at all. I initially lost some weight because of the reduction in liquid calories and drunk food & in the beginning of my pregnancy, I felt like I had a constant low-grade hangover (headache-y, very fatigued, slightly ill), so I DEF did not miss it then. Now that I'm moving right along & feeling MUCH better, I do wish I could split a bottle of wine & unwind with the hubs on a Thursday, binging on Netflix.

I think what makes it easier & less noticeable is that my husband has also stopped drinking, too. He'll have a beer or two if we're out with friends or some wine with his family at outings, but other than that, he's respectfully abstaining in solidarity with me, which I really, REALLY appreciate. (Plus his breath gets stinky from drinking, something I probably never noticed before because I was also drinking & my nose is uber sensitive now.)

Does that provide more insight? This my first pregnancy & it's been weird & cool & awesome & weird so far, haha. Going for my big test & measurements ultrasound tomorrow to check the little lady & make sure she's a perfect little baby!! :)

Re: These Invisible Zit-Clearing Patches Also Stop Me From Picking - by Lisa

Wait, so these work on ingrown hairs, too?! I've never been more ardently pro-choice than I am now (ftm) because I'm faced with the reality that shit does happen & babies are non-viable, despite being so desperately wanted, we must let them go in some circumstances & that is no one else's business or choice but mom's.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Seriously, I'm so glad he handled it the way he did & responded the way he did. Thank you for standing up for this!!

My last year in college, I worked for the school & walked to/from work every day. Each morning during the beginning/ending of semesters, I had to walk through a congregation of contract workers the school hired to assist with classroom setups/breakdowns. Each morning, they would catcall. One morning three of the young men actually followed me into the building & waited for me outside of the restroom & cornered me when I left, begging dates. I was shocked & scared, quietly refused & brushed past them to my office I shared with my boss. I told her what happened, she called their manager, & he immediately fired the three of them. The manager then came to me to apologize for his workers' behavior & thanked my speaking up because if they were behaving that way so near to their manager (but not in actual line of sight or hearing), who knows how they were acting on campus, in the classrooms. I worked with almost exclusively all men, who were also upset to hear what happened with the exception of one guy, who condemned me for costing three guys to lose their livelihood. I calmly tried to explain to him I didn't make them do anything; they were solely responsible for their inappropriate actions. He continued to argue & make me feel worse about the already awkward situation, so whatever. Some people just don't get it. The scary thing -- that dude has a daughter.

Re: I Have An Untraditional Engagement Ring and People Are Not Cool With It - by Veronica Zabczynski

I think your ring is stunning.
