I'm new to your blog (found you via Twitter!) and this was such an excellent post to read at the beginning of the new year. Thank you so much for your honesty and sharing this with us. As someone who was also raised in purity culture it is really refreshing to have a name for it and know that I am not alone in feeling weird and not really knowing my body and sexual preferences until much later than my peers. I look forward to hearing a bit more about your journey and am loving having found a community of folks that I can relate to.

I really like things simple and it sounds like your family have a lovely day when you're celebrating! It's so great that you make something handmade for the kids to take home, too. There's only so many plastic things a kid can have and I'm sure they treasure their gift!

Wow Kate, your kids must get so excited for their birthdays! Such a cool idea, I'd love to see the posters you create. Ha, this year my family decided to share their favourite things about me while we were out at dinner and I have to admit it made me feel preeeetty uncomfortable (while of course, lovely!) - it's probably a good thing though to get better at receiving compliments, ha.

What an awesome tradition! I love the idea of everyone gathering together, especially as you get the chance to recognise important relationships that don't get a public holiday like aunts and cousins. I'd love to hear how this years gathering goes!

This is what I love about you! There definitely is a little bit too laid back of a vibe here sometimes, which bums me out. I love to have a party, and it doesn't have to be anything big or crazy even (aside from OTT cakes, this is the best part) and my frustration at others not making an effort has spurred me on to be more social even when I don't feel like it.

Same! That is a big part of my excitement for our trip down south, lots of little towns to stop in and thrift. I agree, and the colours in that cover are fantastic!
