And it's much worse because I work in a library too. Yet I will go to all the library systems in our reciprocal area to get a book I want. I tried to do something where for library book I read, I'd have to read 3 personal books. But then due dates! And people placing holds on my stuff and I can't renew! It will never end.....

Re: Books to Read While You Wait for The Last Jedi

I've actually really enjoyed all the novelizations of the movies. I think they've given more depth into characters and from POVs that might not have happened in the movies. Most of which makes me cry like a baby.

Example: Rogue One - there's a POV from K2 before *SPOILERS* dies and as he's dying he thinks of Cassian getting free and it was a good thought and then he dies thinking that. *SOBS*

Re: A Sweet Valley High Movie is Coming (from the Writer of Legally Blonde!)

So I guess Diablo Cody gave up?

Re: 13 Awesome Audiobooks Read by Actors

More Tim Curry love - The Lemony Snicket series! There's a few books where Lemony himself does the reading but most of the books are wonderfully narrated by Curry. That cough. So I can relate very much to this post. I love Annie's writing and that book of her is a favorite of mine. Good luck to your search! I read for 50 minutes each hour and then the final 10 minutes would be my break. I think I also may have done 2 hours over the 24 hours where I read for 10 minutes and then napped/showered/something to stay awake. I believe I ended up reading 19 books that day. Haven't been able to repeat that again but it was tons of fun.

Re: Who Decided that Noah’s Ark was a Children’s Tale?

I just want to say that Many Waters, the 4th book in the A Wrinkle in Time series, is my favorite Noah story of all time. I think Madeline L'engle did an excellent job of turning a familiar story more interesting, and then taking two characters who were essentially background cardboard characters in the other books, and fleshing them out.

Re: The Inbox/Outbox Method: How I Whittled Down My TBR Pile

I'm pretty much doing the same thing but it's not books I purchased, it's books I get from the library. Because I work in a library and also have reciprocal rights to several other really great systems near me, I am always putting things on hold and then they come in for me. But then I kept neglecting everything I already owned. So I'm currently trying to read my personal books (which got WAY out of control) but I still have a library book every now and then and then I feel guilty about not reading my own books again. Your system is something I'm going to try out because it seems the best way for me to whittle down my own shelves AND be able to get the new stuff at the library.

Re: Frontlist Fatigue; Or, No, I Won’t Preorder Your Book

I feel the same way and also too used to be a former book blogger. The only book I have ever preordered in my life was Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows because...of course I had to. But in terms of normal books and ARCs: I had a schedule at the time of only reviewing one book a day. So many books got sent to me that shared the same release date. And the publishers/blog tours would want the books to be posted about on certain dates which would then wreck my review schedule. I got so backlogged with trying to figure out my schedule that it got frustrating and I eventually gave up book blogging. These days, I only "preorder" aka place a hold on new books in my library catalog.

Re: Book Storage Ideas for Apartments and Small Living Spaces

The first picture. Or vice versa, a man's name is the author but it's really a woman writing a pen name (ie Robert Galbraith). I've come across this more in fiction than nonfiction but I just wondered if one should just assume the name is the gender or look for pictures/do more research, etc. if you're attempting a challenge like this.

Re: Great Fiction From Malaysia And Singapore

Oh thank you for this list! I love it because while you have do some digging, there are some really great authors and stories out there regardless of the faith of the characters. They just happened to be Christian in their faith and that's how they live their lives but it doesn't affect the plot too much. I hate it though because like you mentioned, the genre as a whole is so white. Being a POC myself, it's very disheartening that this will probably not change because the market is all of that demographic and they want to read what they are familiar with. I would love to see more diversity but....it probably will not happen anytime soon.

Re: Where Are All the Asian Kids in Contemporary YA Romance?

It's funny because I was just talking about this with my sister the other day. Growing up the only consistent Asian American main female character we had was Claudia from The Baby-Sitters Club. (I'm still ticked off there isn't an Asian girl as a main historical American Girl doll. Ivy as a sidekick does not count) I'm now in my 30s and I STILL would love to read more about Asian teens in YA contemporaries.

Re: 3 On A YA Theme: The Great San Francisco Earthquake

squee!
