For me, microblogging is so new. Twitter frustrates me with their outages though. Plurk, I'm still getting used to. On both of them, the amount of tweets & plurks can be overwhelming if you have lots of followers (twitter). However, it's a good way to get to know the people behind the websites & blogs.

It is an honor to 'know' you through the blogosphere...hard work really does pay off...I hear it all the time from bloggers who become discouraged that their blog isn't making any money or that they are not getting enough traffic. But they don't understand it's all a part of the learning curve.

I enjoy Facebook more than Twitter because of the level of engagement. Sometimes on Twitter, it feels like you are throwing your update up on a wall hoping it sticks. Starts to remind me of Digg. However, Facebook is actually a real social community where people befriend you based on some level of similarity.

Those are powerful statistics. Only 47% of businesses experimenting with social media. I would presume that there is a lack of understanding on how to benefit from social media. Paul Dunay, global managing director-services and social marketing at Avaya says: "2010 is the year social media leaves the marketing group. If you have someone who really knows the social media landscape, they can galvanize the company around the customer." I believe there are many organizations that could benefit from a boost from proper social media integration.

I wrote a note on my Facebook page back in March about this very thing. It was fueled by anger and disappointment at the dropout rate in the City of Detroit. Being a product of the Detroit Public School system, I experienced an emotional pain that at the time was indescribable. So, to read this post, brings my heart a sense of relief, as maybe, just maybe, someone in Detroit will step outside the box, and do something brand new to help those kids. Oh, and I linked to this article....
