Like buying organic grains (where?) and Healthier choices for condiments, etc. Everything seems to have so many preservatives and chemicals.

Re: Flu

I'm sorry. I have learned so much this week! There are several areas of my preparedness that need attention, and without this challenge I would have never known!

I also realized that I spend far too much time (and money) grocery shopping. I can certainly cut that way back and save money and do a better job organizing our meals and food choices. (I don't think I've ever gone this long without shopping!!!)

I also realized that I want to have a much larger garden. And figure our a fruit source that I can rely on. So, so much to think about! Thank you again!!!

Re: The 7 Day Challenge: Day 6 (MONDAY)

Every day is getting harder as I have less and less fresh food. I was late reading today's challenge and had already eaten breakfast and made my lunch. I will revisit these challenges again and try to be better prepared. Gosh, has this ever been eye-opening! Thanks Jodi and Julie!

Re: The 7 Day Challenge: Day 5 (SUNDAY)

I am so glad that we bought a butane stove. Between that and the gas grill we were able to cook. This week is getting more and more difficult as I haven't shopped since 9-2. There is very little left in the freezer and tomorrow and Tuesday are going to be pretty much pantry food only.

Boy is the week ever eye opening to me! Thank you again, Jodi and Julie.

Re: The 7 Day Challenge: Day 4 (SATURDAY)

Oops! I typed my comment in the wrong spot. We're going out with friends to a local festival and won't be back until after 8:00, so I'm posting now. This was already planned and our friends got us free tickets and are treating us. I guess, this would be the only way we could go if we really were having financial difficulties. We'll need to rely on family and friends.

I said in my other post that this is the most difficult challenge so far, because it feels so personal and embarrassing. The other challenges affected everyone, but it is much harder when you see others going about their daily routines while your world was topsy-turvy, kwim?

I was very happy for the rain barrel water to flush the toilet, but I'm concerned that my two week supply of potable water would be insufficient.

Thanks Jodi and Julie, this week has been eye opening to say the least!

Re: The 7 Day Challenge: DAY 3 WINNERS!

I had to post earlier today because we won't be back until after 8:00 tonight. This challenge really made me think. I would be in a lot of trouble if our water was turned off for very long. I have two week's supply of potable water and that would be a big problem. I guess I could go to a friend's house and refill the bottles. Our rain barrels would definitely come in handy for flushing the toilets, so I'll make sure that I keep one filled.

We're going out to a local festival today that was already planned. And fortunately for us, our friends had gotten free tickets and the day is their treat! It's funny (and wonderful) how that worked out. I would have felt bad if I had to just walk around and not even buy something to drink. It's almost scarier to think about a financial hardship than any other type of emergency. The others affect everyone, but somehow, financial hardship is personal and embarrassing and stressful. That makes it much harder to deal with. I am really learning so much this week! Thank you Jodi and Julie!

Re: The 7 Day Challenge: Day 3 (FRIDAY)

This was a fun one. We really didn't have to scrounge around too much, mostly because this challenge let us use refrigerated (and frozen) items.

Re: The 7 Day Challenge: Day 2 (THURSDAY)

I did much better today. I guess my preparations have been more for a quarantine, hurricane or blizzard. I wish that I had cookies and other more pleasant items in my pantry that didn't need to be baked by that I mean ready-to-eat fun foods for when people are cooped up inside.

I did have to go to work, so I didn't get the full effect. But today's disaster made me a little more confident that I have at least many items to get us through a disaster.

Re: The 7 Day Challenge: DAY 1 (WEDNESDAY)

I forgot to include items for our newly adopted kitten! I realize now that I need to keep up with my kits and not just make them and forget them! Thanks Jodi and Julie! You are really helping me!!!! If this had been for real, my poor little kitten might not make it! Oh, how horrible that would be!
