YAY!!!
Finally caught up with all (or almost all) I had missed over the 6-7months I have been out of commission. It is long story that includes a mid pandemic eviction, a serious fall, a lengthy coma in a hospital, the loss of almost all of my worldly possessions, including several laptops, and the good fortune to finally secure a berth in a foster home in the nick of time. Hence my absence from the comments and attending fellowship!

from a psychological perspective and even a pharmacological perspective, it turns out that the ancient adage IN VINO VERITAS, which it seems you are espousing, is not the complete truth. the truth is that one's "truth" is based on a germ of truth, but significantly distorted when processed through the lens of alcohol or other mind/perception altering drugs.

from the point of view of a recovering alcoholic, i can attest this is true. unfortunately for me, this includes the majority of my college education, and my writing and organization skills. i am now a sober nincompoop who need to get friends to act as interpretors of any kind of forms or applications. fortunately, more or less, most of my language and communication skills were acquired BEFORE i began drinking alcoholically.

had i done so, which is unlikely at my age, i would, however i didn't. i asked a question about her hands, because they seemed oddly clawlike, which is not a condition i associate with age, but illness. i do however wonder why she made them a defining feature of this video.

i did comment on her face, which appeared frozen to me, but was gratuitous in the light of my original concern. most women of her age in the limelight either use botox or surgery, so facial immobility is an occupational hazard, imho. chuckling at someone's aging process was the last thing on my mind and not in my character.

b) my hands are at least marginally nicer because i have proportionately longer fingers, but otherwise, about equally rough.

i've actually done that, all except the actual dying part. i moved to hawaii in my early 70s counting on my relative health that i had been enjoying at the time of my move, and my ability to connect with people in the previously dependable community of other alcoholics in AA. my bad luck i had a surgery, the first time ever, go south on me, leaving me confined to a wheelchair in an apartment that is not at all handicap suitable.

all my previous experience with AA, even here on oahu, led me to believe i had an extended AA family here that would support me to some extent in this time of need. perhaps on the windward side of the island where i had lived before but my experience on the leeward (honolulu) side has been quite different. despite repeated calls to the AA central office, i was not able to secure a ride to a meeting, nor was i able to arrange for a couple of AA members to visit me to talk AA, or heaven forbid, help me in my daily affairs, ie shopping, dr's visits qand chores.

some of this has been handled by medicare, medicaid, but that support is tenuous, to say the least.

the independence i have enjoyed throughout my life has turned on me in my dotage, be wary, lest you find yourself in this condition.
