I know many of us have a problem with CNN and their frequently questionable coverage but they are doing that grading thing again. I'm passing along the link for those who may want to participate and even out the field just a bit. I can't go through another one of these report card things and have it as ignorant as last time - my TV is new and I can't chuck anything at it. So let's even this quasi poll out and weigh in with our grades:

yes, THIS exactly.

In the end it may prove counter-productive, but it is the immediate visceral emotional response to a government that stood by last year and let Rome start to burn and seemingly only now is willing to open the hydrants and connect the hoses.

I'm not sure it was intentionally. He was recalling so much of the past that I wonder if he just slipped a bit. I was waiting for someone to pounce on it as a senior moment and when they didn't I wondered if I was having the senior moment - lol!
I think maybe he just slipped, when you are speaking extemporaneously like that sometimes you have a little slippage. I just thought it was one of the more obvious errors I had heard. You know, aside from the outright lies and misrepresentations of Obama's positions.

The one thing that is still puzzling me about the debate that I haven't seen any blog or media discuss is McCain's puzzling reference to Madeline Albright. When they were discussing diplomacy and meeting without pre-conditions, Obama said something about Bush's refeusal to speak with teh Axis of Evil. McCain then responded with a denial that the Bush admin doesn't do diplomacy and pointed out the meeting with North Korea. He then referenced Secretary of State Madeline Albright meeting with North Korea.

Now I know Madeline Albright was once Secretary of State, under Clinton , and did meet with North Korea. But in the context of what was being said shouldn't he be referring to Sec. of State RICE and her meeting with North Korea? What does Clinton's Secretary of State have to do with redeeming the Bush policy of the silent treatment?

Did anyone else catch this or was it just me?

Looks like Jack hi-jacked McCain's Straight Talk Express.

I'm with Nquest on this one: Wolf's attempted rationalizations or attempt to blunt the harshness of Jack's blow were intellectually dishonest and semi-unprofessional. If he is going to give Jack a place on his show for Jack's punditry then let him have his say and don't try to muzzle him. Wolf and Crowley spend so much time trying to LOOK objective, as compared to actually BEING objective, that they just end up looking AND being intellectually dishonest.

Palin IS a damn trainwreck - why can't Jack say that and let it stand without clarification, excuse or rationalization?
McCain IS a big fat liar, liar, why can't Crowley acknowledge that without grasping at straws to find examples of Obama misrepresenting?

Last week (9/16) about 2.5 minutes into the show Jon goes on some riff about how the Merrill Lynch's (?) bull's genetalia is messy. He goes on to suggest it should be corn rowed or something and says it looks like Steeler's Tory Polamula's. Later in the show when he starts the interview with Ricky Gervais he goes back on the riff and suggests the Bull's gentalia should be dread locked. Meantime Gervais is visibly squirming in his seat he looks that uncomfortable with the line of "funny". See the whole hot mess here .

Yes, I trust the man knows what he is doing because he sure as heck has come a lot farther than I ever thought he would. So what do I know, apparently not everything, imagine that.
Meantime I LOVE his new change ad. That's the stuff, more of that, more looking presidential, more directly talking to the American people, and like we have intelligence too. More defining yourself and change and not allowing it to be co-opted by McGrumpy and Mooselini with an assist by the MSM who are so fond of the meme of reassigning the "change" to the BS express.

Sounds like you've had a breakthrough Anderkoo. I really good book to read, as follow up, is Deer Hunting with Jesus. Wildly entertaining, and as easy a read as any of the Molly Ivins books on Shrubya, it leaves you with a greater understanding of those millions of working poor who vote Republican even though its so clearly (to us) against their interests. After reading it I finally understood how we ended up with Bush not once, but twice. I highly recommend it to all.

YES, yes, this. I HAVE heard him say that twice now. It sounds like "if he had just done what I asked him to do I wouldn't have to punish him now".

McCain can't rely on his own sense of personal integrity to keep himself from behaving in an unprincipled way?

Is he someone whose own sense of personal integrity can only be adhered to if EXTERNAL conditions are met? Where's the personal responsibility and accountability in this?

Ahh, Canada. See that's where my Mom is from originally. She is the one
who instilled in us all the absolute duty to go and vote and to be
informed. She kept her citizenship right up until a decade ago when my
parents were living in North Carolina. She decided it was the perfect
time to go naturalize so she could vote against Jessie Helms! She may
look like Snuggles the fabric softner bear but she is hella fiesty!

Co-sign. I slept in today and see Truthseeker and Paddy? beat me to posting Ferguson's rant. It was the last thing I watched before calling it a night and his rant was brillant - just brillant. It's really worth it's own mini post on JJP so that nobody misses it in all the comments and linkage.

Yeah it is. I saw her referred to as "Mooselini" over on the Field Negro last night (and am still chuckling this morning). I'm not sure that's a correct analogy but I liked it better than "Caribou Barbie" which cuts awfully close to the sexisim for me. But this Dolores Umbrdige is the best yet.

I don't get it either. It's not as if any of us who witnessed the attacks will EVER forget that day and its aftermath. I find it horrifically painful to re-view that footage knowing all that I know now, that I didn't at the time of the origianl viewing. I feel pain and I am only indirectly , tangentally connected - I can't imagine what the families of the dead, injured and missing feel, or those who personally, first hand witnessed the horror. Why would anyone want to cause them additional pain? For ratings? Just because? To fill up time on our 24 hour news cycle? Geez - where has all the decency gone?

What am I doing? Not getting dragged down by the concern trolls, taking a step back and breathing every day. I'll be phone banking and I am meeting up with other Obama supporters in my area to do some canvassing. I signed up for the voter protection squad that I saw mentioned here over the weekend and I donated to the campaign.

I was most concerned about the recent voter purge news
that Craig Hickman mentioned in today's open thread as well as jay's voter suppression submission. I think we need to start some sort of letter writing campaign to our local newspapers and publications alerting people to check their registration and NOT ASSUME, and also encourage people to do so in time to re-register if necessary. Hilzoy was so helpful in creating a tool to check registration deadlines, I think we should use it.

The pattern that we have seen the last couple of elections is that those not on the official vote registration list end up, more often than not, with provisional ballots. Provisional ballots in most places are bull sh**, they are a pancea, in most cases you can count on your vote NOT counting. We need to get the word out now so people purged off the lists can get back on in a timely fashion. If you check over on the Obama website they have voter registration information so you can check to see if you are registered to vote. May I suggest we all use it to alert people to voter lists purges, to check their own registration and to do so before their local deadline?
