(My son just graduated in December, from ASU.) Email sent. Much appreciation, here.

Re: A Most Simple PHP MVC Beginners Tutorial

Clearly written; good flow, from one bit to the next.

Commenting as one who had "no idea at all of what MVC is", and as someone who was definitely struggling with it after several articles/introductions, I now have a better understanding of SoC after building a simple application. That was only possible for me by using the example in this tutorial.

Much appreciation, here.

Re: A Most Simple PHP MVC Beginners Tutorial

Inserting the following in place of line 19 in the "routes.php" example worked for me:

$controllers = array();
$controllers['pages'][0] = 'home';
$controllers['pages'][1] = 'error';

Re: Educators wary of latest Linden offer

From where I sit (image below; a small, premium account parcel), SecondLife™ will always be the "Manhattan" of the metaverse with inspiring spaces to explore and a creative and diverse community of users. Still, I agree: OpenSimulator IS the future of education.

Re: The First Ever Coffee Ad

Fun. The farthest-ranging foragers were travelling exclusively along a shadow (which was cast within two feet of the colony's entrance by the horizontal support to a chain-link fence). They appeared to "prefer" to work in the shade.

Re: Let’s connect at the Connectivism Course

For me, the lure of the Internet in the 90's was that I could write my own HTML, fiddle with JavaScript, and create my own interactive content. I do not have the impression that the same opportunity exists in other VWs to generate (the same sorts of) content. (If I recall correctly, we met when you helped me to test a simple HUD that I had scripted.)
And, as a scripter, I find my hands are full with Second Life and OpenSim grids alone...and I have ten hands! (three VW accounts plus two alts). Anyway, one more identity might break me under schizoid tendencies ("No it wouldn't!").
The platforms are still developing, too. For example, the new SL simulator version (1.27) has rolled into the server managing my wee bit of a parcel in SL. This version brings the LSL Server functionality to SL...objects can have unique URLs that are visible from the web. So, for a while, I'll be busy making all my *BLING* respond with local weather report and angle of sun when you open my Shiny Green Hat in your web browser. (Hypothetically, for dramatic effect.)
Then, there is the rapid versioning in OpenSIm. Here is a short post about a function that is available in OpenSim, but *not* available in SL: http://www.tinyurl.com/lvnvf3
Have you seen any Metaplace machinima worth mention?

Re: Let’s connect at the Connectivism Course

Thank you, for posting this announcement.

Are you familiar with the work of Jakob Nielsen, particularly at the end of the last century? (http://www.useit.com/) I have begun to study usability in virtual world design, with an eye to identifying effective instructional design, in Second Life™; and, I suspect that Connectivism could synergize that process. After my own experience last year with Connectivism, there is nowhere to go but up.

So, if I cobble together a "distributed infrastructure for innovative conversation" myself this fall, and it explores one particular aspect of learning and collaborating in new ways, I wonder:

Would we connect?
