I cooked it with the rice
cooker and the cooking time was definitely 50% less. It still didn't click
to warm though and the congee was a bit thick. So I popped it on to the pan
and add more water... Great Yummy Congee... and he liked it!!
I showed him your wonderful website and he said he will make some congee
tonight.
One more person is converted to "congeeism"!! Hurrahhh!!!

: )

Re: Congee - also known as chinese rice porridge or jook or chook

Hi Phoebe,

I made more congee the next day for my friend who is recovering from illness and this time, I soaked the brown rice overnight. I had to do it manually otherwise it would have got burnt. Well I thought what's wrong?
I realised I did not soak the grain beforehand... I wonder if it does make that big difference it cooking time as well as the consistency of the congee?

I had it with some bitter melon stir fry yum : )
Thanks for a great website!!

Re: A chinese potato soup recipe with pork ribs and carrot

Thanks Debra and Phoebe. Can you offer a substitute for this?

Thanks.
Ayuka
